Thargoid Shield concept art from a former frontier artist

That's just too much for FD and Elite as well. I don't even think that game engine can handle this.. or FD.. Can only imagine their shock when they first saw that..

I'd say VFX artist overdid it too much. No wonder it was not used.

I like the V1 Jellyfish one. :)

Never shot a Thargoid, they went with V3?

They went with none of them. Thargoid hearts expose a red glowing light when exterted and thargoid panic shields are a green bubble with spore-like particles. They explode like any other ship, but in a much greater, corrosive boom when dying.

Could we stop with that "the engine can't handle it" nonsense ?

The engine is Fdev's, they can add anything they want. The issue is : the game, on PC, has minimum requirements (that both consoles ports exceed). So if they want to add that, they need to optimize it in a way that the game doesn't consume more resources than now. That takes a lot of time.

So they went for something simpler they knew they could get to run on the minimum configuration.

While I think the concept arts are brilliant they seem to look a little bit too flashy for my taste. The cyclops it self looks already beautifull. Even now my GF doesn't understand why I shoot the cyclops. With this flashy blue shield it would feel kind of wrong...

I'll be honest, I'm still hooked on the Riot Police Camel in that artist's feed.

Andromedaries :D

Note she worked on Mass Effect Andromeda - and I see only one hump with a saddle upon it. That noble steed is heavily augmented :)

Btw there are interesting things to discover when scrolling down. For instance, she did the concept art for the Scouts and several weapons. The most interesting thing though may be the info that the center room inside the Thargoid structures is a Probe nursery room. Probe as in concept or as in UP? And she names the whole thing "Thargoid base", twice. So now I know.

I suggested that the Thargoid probes (back when they were known as UAs) could possibly be Thargoid young. The crash sites really gave this impression too. When you look at them in that context, and how the Thargoids respond to people collecting them since they've officially shown up, it all makes sense.

That still doesn't answer why they all point to Merope though, unless there's a Queen there somewhere.

Merope could be half-way point to calculate distance between human buble and thargoid bubble.

I was forced yesterday to rewatch "Stargate" :p.
6 points to define area and 7th to calculate distance.

Although in Elite, 3 stars are enough to pinpoint stuff. :p
(except space-worms [cry] )

Well, I've been to many of the Thargoid sites before and also know there are lots of cocoons hanging from the roof. The exact function of that room remained unclear to me, though. As the most prominent features are the Thargoid device and the lightshow it produces, I had always imagined it to be the navigator room of some ship, and I believe for several reasons these sites once were ships, now bases. Nursery room, though, sheds a very different light on that room, and people usually refer to the most important aspect when describing things. If an artist with presumed inside knowledge explicitly names it so, that's not to be neglected. So my current theory is these "bases" were Thargoid (mother?) ships that were designed to be grounded on some planet and then launch the probes, possibly programmed via the lightshow, and then leaving thru the centerpiece. These Thargoid ships | bases may have landed prematurely because of the Mycoid, but nonetheless. I found that rather interesting. YMMV.
