I'm assuming it'll get added later, but currently you don't seem to be able to interact with anything thargoid-y on the ground yet. I went to one of the unknown structures with my explorer suit hoping to scan some stuff but sadly nothing is scannable. Scavengers can be shot but seem to be unable to return fire, they just sort of float around you menacingly until you kill them, you also can't pick up meta alloys or scavenger components despite being like, coke bottle sized.
Pretty disappointing but not exactly surprising. What you can do on the ground still seems very limited.
