Thargoid Wing Fights are Broken

Thargoid wing fights are completely broken.

After a few days of attempting to take down thargoids in wings with other people, I can safely say that it's much easier done by yourself. Why? Because in a wing, 90% of the time the thargoid ship will only be able to take damage from one player at a time. Its shields come up randomly, it shuts down ships without any warning whatsoever, it sometimes retains dead swarms (which still fire at you - and do damage). It's ridiculously difficult to actually do anything unless the game decides that you're the one that gets to hurt the alien. It's absolutely stupid.

Anyway, rant over. I'm done with the game until this gets fixed (or the Type 10 becomes more than a useless pile of junk - thanks for making ships obsolete on arrival). Thargoids and a new ship were what brought me back, and the same broken instancing and bad development threw me out again.

If your whole enjoyment of the game hangs on one activity only, I don't think you'll ever be happy.
And T10 is actually a pretty good ship. Unless you expected new Anaconda, only more OP, like some did. Judging by your attitude, I wouldn't be surprised.

Merry Christmas. Have fun with your life.

He's got a point though. Yeah for activities that AREN'T Thargoid hunting the T10 beats the T9 utterly (but it was marketed as a Thargoid hunter). But the ships poor hardpoint placements make killing Thargoids ineffective. And there are nasty bugs that pop up with the Thargoid fights sometimes that can really be detrimental, especially if you have your eyes set on a Basilisk or god forbid the Medusa (can only imagine what 7 and 8 heart variants will be like to fight....). Frontier rushed the T10 clearly and it shows. Best AX weapons are fixed (and we haven't even gotten AX Railguns or AX PA's yet) and the only other varient is a Turret that is ludicrously expensive and has massive damage reduction cause turret (unless you like wasting materials on injecting premium ammo). So the ship marketed for killing Thargoids and defending against them is utterly useless. Yeah wooo you can get 8400+ hull if you stack hrp's and get god rolls on stuff (actually god rolls probably push 10,000 hull). But good luck actually hitting the Thargoid with any sort of focused fire. And say goodbye to that crewman who can actually effectively use the SLF and that you grinded to Dangerous, Deadly, or Elite... cause chances are the Thargoid will still claim victory (especially if Medusa) and you'll have lost your pilot (lost a Master pilot i raised from Harmless, their description even stated they wanted to see the Thargoids, well... they saw them alright...), now I have some generic EXPERT recruit that I don't have to worry about paying really cause I'll just get blown up again in my Gunship built for Thargoid hunting.

Realistically there are some glaring problems right now that make no sense, and the content is clearly rushed with bugs out, what is this, a Blizzard game?

Don't want to comment on the topic because I lack the experience to do so but a point of order here, I thought that Ubisoft were the rushed out buggy games whereas Blizzard were the ones that pushed out polished yet uninspired games to leech the same fanbase over and over??
My D&D alignment chart for game developers needs an update if not :p

Wing fights against Thargoids are broken, no doubt. 2 out of 3 are unkillable, but so are you. Had this with both Basilisk and Cyclops, several times. And if you kill a Xeno, rewards are broken too. But it's still fun. Bring a T-10.

O7,
[noob]

only if you don't know how to outfit a ship. I have no problem with the hardpoints. They were deliberately placed how they were.

The point I was making is that fixed weapons are atrocious on it due to no real point of convergeance unless you're at a distance (at which point you need long range mod)

Voice communications transforms combat. Wing mates have transferred some heavy metal to Maia and use discord voice in the attacks.

We are still learning the best way to do things but we are having fun. The discord also allows forming the wings either by schedule or ad hoc.

Really magnifies the fun.

...what are you even talking about? This thread is about thargoid combat being totally broken while in wings.

He may as well have a point but this is not how you make a point.

I haven't tried the t10 yet, but if its hardpoint convergence is rubbish, it should be looked at. It's a new ship, it can bear a few tweaks and get an upgrade with the first patch of 2018.

One of the interesting things about that, is that Lakon also has the ship with arguably THE best hardpoint placement in the game (AspX), why didn't they copy the AspX in this regard? Odd...

It always retains dead swarms.

So it is hard and you are just complaining. Gotcha.

To interject, since I was one of the Cmdrs Obnoxious_gamer winged up with.

The Panic Shield did pop up a few times out of sequence, ie not after a heart was destroyed, and when we had a wing of three, only one ship was able to damage the hearts, the other two could damage the hull, but not the hearts.

So it isn't that is it hard per se, but that issues with wings disincentivise winging up for hunting cyclopses, if you cam solo a Cyclops, and worse, we had Cmdrs who were their first time hunting with us and these bugs made it frustrating and confusing for them, when they find they are unable to damage the hearts

The time to kill increased as more ships were added to the wing.

If I recorded anything I would have put in a bug report

I read these threads about thargoid battles and feel like I'm playing a completely different game.

yup, unless something changed in the last week? I've been following many cmdrs on streams, some solo, most fighting in wings successfully and having a great time. Cmdr rusty dog is a good youtube streamer to check out, he's been fighting Thargoids in wings for quite some time now.

Have to admit I haven't seen anything that remotely suggests wing combat is broken against Thargoids, only quirk I noticed is at least one person must remain in the instance whenever other ships jump out for repairs, but that's nothing new.

@Op - Have you got any videos?

EDit - @Vasious - Defintely sounds like a bug, it was reproducible on multiple attempts?

Cheers

no. they're not if you set up your ship right and use it as it was intended... and if you're not using it as intended then it's not the design 's fault.
