Thargoid yellow lightning

I'd like to understand the effects of the yellow lightning better. Sometimes after being hit, useful things like heatsinks and shutdown neutraliser don't work and say "low power". But when I look in "Modules" the power plant seems OK. What's going on, and is there anything I can do about it, apart from landing for repairs?

The 'low power' warning for those modules is usually the SYS capacitor being low or empty.

Ah, I need to watch that more closely. Maybe the lightning shut down my shield and sys was sending everything to the shield to rebuild it? I could put the heatsinks at a higher priority than shield?

Power priorities don’t affect how the power distributor’s SYS capacitor works - it’s a set bar that utilizes it for whichever module requires it.

So if you lost your shield because Thargoid lightning took it down completely, there’s little you can do about that with priority management.

If you’re using bi-weaves, enhanced low power/lo-draw is a good option to prevent its recharge from draining the sys capacitor and preventing use of heatsinks and field neutralizer.

Ah, that's what's been going on then, thanks.

Unfortunately, the lightning attack does a tremendous amount of shield damage - I believe 800+? Best thing you can do is simply boost past it within 800m so that its effects are either stunted or negated. I don't fly shielded against interceptors, and the lightning attack does little to no damage to hull.

Cyclops lighting is 800 shield damage. Looking at AXI wiki for other numbers, Basilisk is 1,700, Medusa 2,800, Hydra 4,400, each one also keeping you in the lightning for longer.

In short, try to avoid it at all costs if you use a shield. Biweaves will basically always get taken out by any non-Cyclops variant. I’d personally only take one if you’re still starting out in AX or want to have a go at one of the big ships where it’s harder to avoid the cannon.

The other issue with shields is Thargons. Medusa and Hydra swarms chew through them pretty quickly, whereas they are only a threat to shieldless builds in missile formation.

Yeah I can't cold-orbit and that stuff to save myself, so that's all I do.
I used to bait the lightning sometimes to get an easy heart destruction, before I stopped with AX (for RP reasons). Helped a little when I had to deal with a Medusa largely on my own with four modshards(and no ammo synths because I’m dumb), when I was only starting to get Basilisks down, in a space CZ. It wasn’t good for my blood pressure.

I generally don’t talk about those times where I was still new and constantly strayed into lightning range.

The worst thing about the lightning is the engine reduction. Being able to use your heatsinks doesn't matter squat when you can barely reach 150m/s, you get hammered by the interceptor regardless (as well as any nearby scouts).

Yeah, It basically tears your shield down and cuts your thrust to nearly nothing. Shielded birds really need to avoid it since it can drain SYS trying to hold and then leave you without heatsinks or SDFN for a significant time while shield rebuilds. If I do get hit I try to keep cycling silent running to hold off the shield rebuild or turn it off until the current attack run is over. Shieldless I almost beg it to pull me in once its exerted. Makes those shards hurt EXTRA bad.
