Thargoids at Bug Killer Site

Thargoid Sensor...do Sensor Fragments count???

That explains the events that just unfolded at the The Bug Killer site...I have been there dozens of times, but this is the first a Thargoid showed up...twice...in 2 minutes.

I just did some reading - apparently they only appear twice if you're carrying items of interest. I had only scanned the data sites, and was in my ship at the time they appeared. I had no cargo (or even racks) fitted, but the only thing I do have remotely related are Guardian FSD booster, and Sensor FRAGMENT mats.

Both scanned the crashed ship, then me. Nothing else happened, but there were two of them.

Is this new behavior? Note that I have only once, previously, been hyperdicted by Thargoids (when they first appeared). I was running a mission to Maya at the time.

In this situation, I had dropped out of supercruise to land back at the Bug Killer site to collect more data when the encounter happened.

I've been here 20+ times previously, for maybe an hour or more, with no encounters. Tonight however, it is night time on that side of the planet, and they appeared. Two of them.

This has been so for ever - I have heard of people being able to interact (fight) with a 'goid there but I have never been able to elicit a response from them. It was interesting "decoration" when I first went there but in truth the noise just gets boring after a few trips.

Yeah I did fight them there a couple times.

To OP:
It's a static POI, multiple of these exist in the game (like that one penal colony).
They randompaly appear, either 1, 2 or none at all. Cyclops, Basilisk and Medusa variants are possible.
I'm not sure baout the exact chance of them spawning but it's definetly more than 50% upon relog.
