Thargoids Become Hostile With Ancient Relics in Cargo

My friend wondered what would happen if you dropped an Ancient Relic near a Thargoid. I decided to test this and after being scanned by the Thargoid, it turned red, waited a minute, then attacked.

Could the Ancient Relic be upsetting the Thargoid?

I attempted to back up, but the Thargoid kept right up in my face the entire time.

It probably IDed you as a ship of that species by mistake after it "scanned" you.This is probably a clue to what happened in the past between the thargoids and the other species.

Very possibly.

After seeing it done by Lave I've added a Relic into the machine at a Tharg crashsite and seen first-hand how angry the Ancient's tech made them.

Though if I was suffering influenza and someone started trying to place foreign objects in me I would probably try to kill them too.
