Thargoids not scary, not challenging and most likely not dangerous at all

Yes I have been waiting for this to happen since release. A video showing the offensive (and possible defensive) capabilities of a thargoid interceptor.

Below is a video of CMDR The90sKid fighting a Thargoid for seven minutes.

As you can see Thargoids do very little damage despite phasing sequence. The mass destruction against federal ships (like someone said in the YT comments: "Federal ships famous for their hull tanking being worse than a single imperial Clipper" (quote is not word-to-word)) shown in trailers and in-game spoilers doesn't match with the firepower shown in this video.
Where is the logic? A Thargoid capable of destroying multiple federal and imperial ships ... even capable of destroying capital ships now struggles against an imperial Clipper with gimballed weapons. Now one would think that an alien ship doing its EMP thing and disabling every single system on your ship AND having a scan protecting surface would also be capable of disrupting gimbals or turrets? Haha, wrong. Thargoids don't have access to chaff launchers same as NPCs don't have access to engineers despite them landing on their bases.

After the CGs will be completed successfully (since there is no room for them to fail) these poor Thargoids will be easy to farm like any other NPC with the challenge level of Minecraft.
Fearsome aliens you say? "We should be afraid?" You say?
Looking forward to the stacking of their left-overs once the anti-tharg sprays are available i nevery supermarket of the galaxy.

I am sad. Because I knew it all along and my realistic expectations are always met. Expectations like Thargoids being no threat and therefor not scary, that we will never have a decent multiplayer connectivity, no passive incomes and certainly no multiplayer player interactions in forms of trading, grouping beyond temporary wings and many other nice things.
With every update FDev mets my expectations that we will never have meanignful gameplay, just grinding.
Please, FDev prove me wrong and let YT spit out footage of a single thargoid destroying multiple CMDRs in a wing with fully fitted anti-thargoid equipment and good experience in PvE and PvP combat.
For this, the challenge level of thargoids needs to be raised atleast by 1000% so 10 times more challenging.

From what I have seen now, I can just highwake like on every other mass locking NPC and are an annoyance at best.

Add RNGineers to the game that need these materials and you will see thousands of commanders with modified modules that use said materials the next day.

Non-Human Signal Source [Threat 5]? Non-Human Farming Spot [Threat 0]. Any average CMDR is better at beating up CMDRs than this poor nice looking space flower. Even a wing of Vultures or Eagles is more dangerous than this space flower.

For an alien vessel that is supposed to have access to advanced tech, hyperdicting non-alien ships plus EMPing non-alien vessels and immunity to any non-alien weaponary with extreme manouvering capablities and flower-launched-bee-warms needing 7 minutes for a medium seized ship with gimballed weapons is more than just poor.
Anyone can simply highwake out and won't get hyperdicted?
If one player can survive 7 minutes then what if a wing of CMDRs shows up?
Thargoid EMPs only once?
Stacking caustic resistance is a free ticket for life?

Any hull tank with 3k or more armor will be easy mode against space flowers. In the forum title picture I see three Thargoids in the background and one in the front lookign at the viewer. Two of the background Thargoids fight against Eagles near a station. Maybe this is the only seize of ship they can actually take on and just arrived at the federal mass destruction place when their other 20 space flower wing mates already left. Because this is the realistic amount of space flowers you'd need to provide a significant challenge against a single wing of CMDRs.
Any CMDR deals more damage than these poor space flowers and they certainly will be farmed like any other NPC. The war for humanity has already been won. Threat eliminated, threat not existing. Mission complete before it started.

EDIT: And just now, three wings on a single Thargoid. Barely any losses. After 15 minutes multiple CMDRs are still alive. Unless Thargoids are super tanky and have atleast 1.000.000 hitpoints they will be as scary as any other given medium seized NPC.

You survived long but:

While you might be right.... we don't know do we.

This is a prelim phase, I also hope that it isn't just USS farming etc. But right now we can't hurt the Thargoids at all so they are not farm able . and not easy. Yes you can survive for a good while but that's all.

Who knows what the reaction will be when things escalate.

Judging by the mess they made of those cap ships ....

I for one have really enjoyed my first encounters and am looking forward to seeing where this goes.

We currently know nothing and might even be looking at some regular grunts of their scout wing... In old lore, Thargoid motherships were the size of moons... And that might give an idea, what those growing bases on moon surfaces are. And if we can develop special weapons against Thargoids, so can they against humans. Give this thing a month or two to develop and you will see more fire than you like. My bet.

It strikes me that this is very speculative. Yes, it's currently possible to last against a Thargoid for a good period of time with good armour and shields on an engineered ship but as to whether they're "easy mode" will entirely depend on how effective any offensive weapons will be once they're available.. I agree though that the thargoids should probably have a defence against gimbals to encourage fixed weapon use... Although they're so big that you can't really miss with fixed weapons either so...

I had similar expectations.

My biggest fear is that when we get the weapons, it will just become a "bulletsponge" — which in gameplay terms devolves into "Shoot it until it dies!"

The most interesting things I've seen, are the videos of individual players who get interdicted by 3 Thargoids and are EMP-disabled while being shot at.

For all what I know he fought 7 min agains a possible Thargoid Sidewinder. We might not have seen the Thargoid Python, Anaconda or Corvettes yet ... How can someone be disapojnted after a couple of hours the patch is life? Very weird ...

I guess the problem FDev has is making Thargoid content available to all: scale it too hard and you essentially lock out CMDRs in smaller ships, too easy and big-ship CMDRs can tank for days 7 mins.

Maybe an option would be to make damage have a fixed numerical component, and also a percentage?

eg: say currently a Thargoid single shot does 50 damage (before resists), so instead make it do 25 damage + 1% hull. A CMDR in a Viper will still get blown up way before one in a vette, but the vette CMDR still has a hard limit of 100 shots before 0% hull.

Another option may be to give the Thargoids all the special weapon effects: drag munitions, emissive and thermal stuff may all limit engineered ships more than non-engineered ones, again making them scale a little better to older players than new?

What a ridiculous title. How many fights against Thargoids have you won?

You say in a couple of months, when we have the new tech, we'll be able to fight them and that makes you sad. Did you honestly expect Thargoids will be invulnerable for all time? Elite is, after all, a game. Of course sooner or later players will be able to "win".

Well, the ships we're encountering are just one class, the cyclops variant.

This could have something to do with it...

Also the weapons used don't correlate to the damage seen on the wrecked ships, anyone else think this?

Because I was disappointed to see when I was attacked, that there were none of these alien weapon affects on my ship, it was just the normal damage model....

I like this theory. We can't really damage them, and they can't really damage human ships either... yet. I was a little surprised in the second vid that it didn't get any assistance, no other Thargoids jumped in to help.

They do seem a little under-powered. I was hoping we'd have one chance to get away or death basically, at least initially. I'm hoping it's just because we haven't met any true combat variants yet.

That's like your opinion man. For me they are quite scary for what they worth it. Also it seems they aren't OP yet - although I suspect what we see here are just scouts, entry level ships.

But I guess you choose already your opinion that you are salty without having even experienced yourself. Cool.

Not everyone flies cutters / clippers / engineeted ships so their difficulty is relative and you have a choice to make it as easy or as difficult as you like

To make them kill every ship bar a cutter in less that 2 seconds while might be a more realisticgame style its not enjoyable for the masses

Soooo...

You had 15 on 1 with a Thargoid, with those 15 ships most likely being super engineered.

The Thargoid did not die. Thats pretty good going for a non-threat.

And, just as Thargoids overwhelm a single target with numbers of drones, so 3 wings survived by dividing the firepower of a Thargoid itself.

If anything, its a score draw at 1:1.

And on the other side there are people getting Hyperdicted by different Thargoids that have shutdown pulses and multiple swarms of Thargons wrecking wings

Seems like there is more to this than day one is letting on. Funny that
