Moties are "scarier" in the sense of they need the same Earth-like planet types as we do, so conflict would be inevitable - especially as both Humans and especially Moties would be reluctant to implement population controls.
The Thargoids live on ammonia planets. It's entirely possible for Human and Thargoid empires to interact peaceably and even overlap, since we can't live on their planets and they can't live on ours. The only logical source of conflict would be resource-rich planets that neither of us could live on.
