Thargon Defence

Not sure if anyone else noticed. In the "short Thargoid cinematic" after the order for evasive manoeuvres (chuckles) - the human ships open fire with laser with some limited success destroying a few Thargons.

Anyway, as prep for the invasion I have added some double shot flak cannons to my FGS, 4 in total with a mixture of extra little perks. As these strike me as possibly the best defence for this kind of attack.

Trying to think up some other defensive tactics, so feel free to post any other ideas.

Just sharing my idea, good luck CMDRs.

Don't [expletive deleted] them off in the first place.

In the 80s it was possible to catch thargons in the fuel scoop even when they were active. They didn't seem to do any further damage in the cargo hold and you could get a good price selling them as "alien items".

Funny. I thought about starting a similar (very premature) thread!

I just bought a new Python in order to face the Thargoid threat. The "Shirio Senshi".

The two 'Plasma Accelerators' are of course just substitutes for two anti-Thargoid missiles. The ECM will be replaced by the protective device.
The class 2 hardpoints will hold turrets as Thargon defense weapons.

The question is: which weapon is suited best against small, fast moving objects?
1) A fragment cannon with rapid fire / screening shell? Or ...
2) A multi-cannon with rapid fire / auto loader?

Any thoughts (without any reasonable information to base it on :D )?

Well, remember its a trailier cinematic.

The goids are not likely to be too difficult to take down once the new weps are equipped.

In the "old days" best tactic was always take out the mother ship - and fast - concentrating on the little ones got you killed. Hopefully point defence will be able to target them - some mines could be interesting - might damage yourself with them as well, but a quick boost and drop in your wake might work well on a bunch of them ?

The issue I can see with mines are if you fly into them also. The thargons also seemed to move pretty quick so you'd need to anticipate their path for frags to work, that is indeed they would even hurt them. Perhaps the damage we see in the trailer is point defense taking out the missiles and not the thargons?

Hmm, never thought about MC's to be honest, an equally sound idea. I picked frags because of the spread . . . . it's bound to hit something. However, considering jitter and the swarm, you could still score hits, they seemed to fly that close that even if you missed, there's a good chance of hitting something else. Jitter could be your friend.

ECM
That's definitly the first thing i would give a try since it was reverse engineered Thargoid technology :)
Let them coming....and bzooom....shutting those things down.

Seriously, it would be nice to make it effective since against missiles it is crap and even against torpedos it won't do much today. Nobody takes an ecm this time. So i think it's time for a 'Return of the ECM' :p
