thargon swarm

Cyclops's swarm is pretty easy to avoid. But Basilisk's swarm keeps surprising me often. Not sure why since I'm pretty confident in not driving through it. Still, it goes into missile phase and things turn south. I feel like flying too close to the swarm, even if it's not technically a "drive through", triggers it as well.

I'm just curious if the rules have changed with the swarm. I've seen videos and read tutorials about the Cyclops getting an initial swarm + 1 more, then 1 per heart. My experience so far has been that I have taken out its initial swarm, the second swarm, and it just blows out another one right after. I get beat up worse trying to destroy an apparently inexhaustible supply of thargons than I do flying without flak at all and just hammer the Cyclops until it is dead and can no longer spit out swarms.
What am I doing wrong and why does it seem like as soon as I get a swarm to 0 there's another one in its place immediately?

Is it possible you're taking too long, and the Interceptor is becoming enraged? If they become enraged, they have an unlimited Supply.

If you take more than 7 minutes to take down a heart old cyclops gets y and he keeps pumping swarms.
Technique I'm practicing. Full reverse with fa off. Swarm doesn't have as much closing speed so maybe easier to hit.
I use two flak cannons which is something of a pain. But there you are.

I've got the krait down to 15 degrees. I've got turret beam lasers. But what is the point of trying to sneak up on the interceptor if despite how cold you are the swarm knows just where you are...

Being cold makes the interceptors miss you, its not about sneaking.
Being cold doesnt seem to help much with the swarm, if at all. (though being in silent running might, I am not 100% sure on that though). If on a rare occasion I fly through a swarm I tend to go silent when they missile at me, seems to help .... sometimes :)

That being said though, being "colder" than other players or than NPCs may well mean the swarm will attack them and not you.
Its like the one man saying to another as they run from a lion, "I dont need to be faster than the lion, I just need to be faster than you" but with cold instead of speed :)

right now im flying alone....no npc's to act as distraction. ive been wondering after what was said about the silent running about doing attack runs with that, heatsinks and vent lasers all at once. maybe i will try that today.

You will overheat too much in silent running when you fire the weapons.
Im no expert but these steps might help.

1. Cool down using the laser while obiting the interceptor.
2. When interceptor shield drops, fire heat sink or sinks and shoot heart.
3. When heart destroyed goto 1.

If your using flak, leave 1 or 2 of the swarm alive, so it doesnt create a new full swarm.
If not using flak avoid flying through the swarm at all cost. If you fail at that you will take massive damage.

This tutorial series by Kate and Will is VERY VERY VERY good !!!
