Thargons

The oldtimers may remember them, so see this as a PSA for the younger players: One of the more iconic weapons of the Thargoids of old were little drone ships called "Thargons", basically a small fighter with a single laser. After shooting down the main ship the drones went inert - you could scoop them up and sell them as alien artifacts.

Do we get launched fighters now to counter that?
Are the UA/UP broken Thargons?
Will the mining laser make a comeback for bug hunting?
And who in the void will turn out to be the Guardian of what?

Damn, I for one can't wait :)

Yeah i remember them, remote control fighters, those pesky buggers ;) Quite a challenge.

I made a fortune off selling these back on the BBC Micro in the '80. There was some key combination that increased the chances of a mis-jump, dropping your ship into witchspace. Handy for making some cash and boosting your combat rating. I wonder if this is the reason that the ship launched fighters have been developed, so that similar code can be used for the Thargoid mother ships?

Especially if there were more than one Mother Ship. Kill one Mother Ship, the drones still kept going. Kill all the Mother Ships and the drones went inert, and you hoped you had time to pick them up, and that no more Mother Ships hove into view!

It's certainly what I've been waiting for......but some reason (perhaps that I am indeed an old timer) I have tharglets in my head rather than thargons........I have no explanation why. I hope they are worth a lots of Cr if you scoop em like they use to be once you knock out the mothership......I may also be wrong about that it was a long long time ago.

Pilot #1: "We've scooped them all."

Pilot #2: "Another Thargoid mother ship just jumped in! Wait, what's that rattling about in the cargo hold?"

Pilot #1: "Jump! Just jump!"

Tharglets are the juvenile form of a Thargoid. Extract form the short novel "The Dark wheel" from Robert Holdstock. If i remember well ;)

What if UAs are indeed deactivated Thargons and when the mothership comes back into range, they all reactivate and wreak havoc... :D

The Thargoids need some original fighting style. Ship launched drones is pretty cool.

What do you mean with Guardian?

I remember them well, but... Mining lasers? Against Thargoids/ons?
