That costs... how much?

Reading around, I've noted comments that the C7 shields are a must for the Clipper.
So I figured ok cool. I'll go get one! :D

Pop over to my local dealership.
Yo fella, I can haz class 7 shields plox!
Aight mate. That'll be 51 million credits...

Shut ze front door....!

Heh! Ok, so I know that they have to try and balance these things somewhat.
But my Clipper cost me what something like 22 million? Maybe less?

If I bought a brand new car, I wouldn't expect the windows to cost me twice as much as the car itself! :)
Lol!

I think if / when I have 50 million credits hanging around to spare, I'm going to be more likely to invest in a python (with trade-ins, etc). I've been itching to try that ship out.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Clipper. After a load of early crashes due to mistakes (which almost put me off the ship), I've come to really start to cherish it these days. Even with the absolute gash hardpoint placements! :D

But 50 million for a basic C7 shield.... yowzers...
That has to be the most expensive module I've ever needed for this ship I think?

23 inch Rims and tyres for a Ferrari aint cheap either :)

Cheers Cmdr's

Haha! Yeah, I did notice that one too.
But don't think I need a C7 fuel scoop on a Clipper... :p
But still. That will come soon enough when I finally get an upgrade to Python or Conda...

Heh true, true!
But never heard of tires and rims costing more than a Ferrari, though! ;)
Unless they were made of gold and diamond studded perhaps...?

If you had A-rated class 6 before, try a C-rated class 7. Bigger, better, and you actually save money. :D

Wait until you want a A8 powerplant for the Conda. 20mil more than the base ship :)

When you start factoring in the 10% loss I can see why people started to get really annoyed!
(I haven't actually checked - was the 10% loss removed? Or is it still a 'thing'?)

It's "on hold", they're working out a better implementation than the one they put into the game on the first attempt.

High end modules, costing more than the platform you want to fit them on, aren't a ED exclusive thing btw.

Eve has plenty of that, and there are probably other games too.

Yeppers, love that Clipper... but not enough to shell out that amount of money for a darn shield.

I did exactly what you said you would do, and bought a Python with that money.
Looooooove that Python, but once again be prepared to be shocked at the upgrade cost.. it doesn't get cheaper.

ships in this game are choppers :) it's like stock Ferrari had an engine from, say, Nissan Micra ;) as well as other parts...

Lol!
True, someone at FD, please increase the price of the Clipper to compensate. Everyone thank scorpyon for the hot tip!

I, personally, don't like this philosophy of having modules cost n-times the base ship price.

There's no player-trade nor player-made items in ED, so the price hike is nothing more than an arbitrary time-sink barrier. The available modules are rarely a matter of choice - you WANT the best. Heck, sometimes you NEED the best, otherwise your ship won't work in the role you bought it for.

For example - you buy a Vulture. A heavy combat ship. But without the upgrades, it's next to useless, so... you need to shell out THAT much more money to even get it into working condition, and then even some more to get it into optimal condition...

I'm pretty sure the components are just a LOT more expensive the higher up the classes you go.

I'm not so sure, given how relatively easy it is to destroy, say, a Python, that it's worth the extra cost (insurance payouts included). I suppose two equally skilled pilots, one in a Python, one in a Vulture, the Python ought to win every time. Nonetheless, I'm not convinced it works that way in practice.

Class 7 Rating shields on a Clipper cost 51 million and give you 300MJ protection.
Take that 51 million and the 20 mill form your Clipper and get a Python with Class 6 Rating A shields for 400 MJ protection.

The Python Class 7 power plant costs 50 million, but you can run most setups with a class 6 (A 6A power plant is plenty of power until you're tanking shield cell banks) and even a trading set up with a class 5 while you make money.

I approve!
The Clipper feels much too cheap after you hav one. But way too expensive when saving up for one. Hehe!
A bit like the Vulture! Just 5m? Is that all it cost? But that seemed expensive when I had no money beforehand.

I suppose all these things are relative to your current financial situation.

That only matters if you actually do die. A Vulture is a very good combat ship, but remember a Python is not pure combat. When you have the money and insurance you can basically run a Python with twice the fire power than the Vulture, several shield cell banks, and still plenty of cargo space.

Like all things in the game, it's when you have the money, why not? There's no point sitting with over 100 million in your account because a larger ship would cost more if you did die.

But if you don't have the money yet, don't worry about it and enjoy the ship you have.
