That may be the dumbest thing I've done yet to date in Elite...

So here I am, making a bunch of different deliveries, while also doing some minor trading inbetween... (taking smuggling missions while filling up the rest of my hold with stuff to sell along the way, go 600t Corvette!) Simple enough, right? Well, It's a good 8 jumps off in my Corvette, and I kinda got bored, and ended up getting interdicted along the way for my phat lute. No big deal, initiate standard protocol sumbit and high-wake... Except that I got curious, because the pirate's always yell at you to, "Drop yer loot! or diiie!" So I thought, "I wonder if they'll actually leave me alone if I do?" So I go to my cargo, and I see a few tons of some random illegal item, and I'm like, "wtfunk is this random crap? Stolen crop harvetser? When did I scoop that?" *dumps* Pirate: "That's not enough! I want it all!" *dumps more random stuff* *pirate continues to fire* "Huh, guess it didn't work." *high-wakes out*

...then I realize those random items were there for the smuggling missions I had taken and had forgotten about in my little venture to test out the pirates. XD Oops. That was a three million dollar mistake... Unless someone knows where I can find a collection of about 7 different types of stolen goods, lmao. *que the group facepalm video*

I did something dumb as well last night. I sped towards a station. At the very last minute I'd realised I'd forgotten to ask for docking permission. I managed to get away from the mailslot but crashed into the station instead as I had been going fast. I escaped with a 300CR fine and 62% hull.

Hmm, reading that title I expected the standard "I flew a vanilla python without insurance and died now i'm in a sidewinder" story... :p

I was destroyed in my cobra mk 3 just after I'd bought it. I'd kitted it out quite a bit but got a little over confident in a RES and blown to bits. In my eagerness to get back out there I unlocked the rebuy box and ended up back in a Sidewinder.....how I laughed....!

There was also the time I rammed an asteroid and had to fly back to the closest station with diminishing life support, no canopy and no HUD.......

On my very first play of ED, after taking off and trundling around a little to get a feel for the controls, I tried to re-dock at trevithick, only to have my requests repeatedly denied. Being 100% green I didn't know anything about limited pads or instancing. So since I appeared boned, in my frustration I let my lasers rip on the station in order to suicide & restart.

Now, to any of you who remember elite1 or frontier, you might remember that going down in a blaze of glory when things went teats up, was simply a more fun way to access the reload screen. And then of course, it hit me. This wasn't elite or frontier. This was a persistent MO game that tracks your funds, rep, criminal status etc beyond death. And I'd just made an enemy of the starting station in the first 15 minutes. Cue aforeposted facepalm.gif :D

Sorry to hear about the loss of your "phat lute".

We have had a whip round at the office and we got you this as a replacement.

Unless someone knows where I can find a collection of about 7 different types of stolen goods

non-gamey approach: change to a pve-piracy ship, for exampel an Asp. use the commodity markets/ galaxy map/ buy trade data, to find a station exporting that goods, make this list, and rob trading ships, either by interdicting in system, or by going to the exporting station, cargo scanning leaving ships, following their wake via frameshiftwake scanner.

half-gamey approach: go to station exporting those goods, pick up delivery missions for those goods, abandon mission, cargo gets makred as stolen.

gamey approach: make a meeting with a friend, buy all gods, drop those goods abandoning them, let him drop them back without abandoning - and they will be marked as stolen.

... but i assume, somebody who has the money for a corvette won't do any of this for *only* 3 mio CR...

First two technically possible but I challenge anyone to find either npcs or missions with the right cargo in the right quantities, before the original mission timer runs out :p

My top accident is the one we ALL made at some point.
While rare goods trading and smuggling in an ASP, my landings were better and better and faster. To the point that I was a little too fast with the controls.
Instead of droping the landing gear in the last second I dropped the booster in the last second... BOOM! Lot of money gone and me out of the door going for a pint

Booster suicide doesn't really register as Darwinism these days.
However, yesterday does appear to have been a vintage day. I lost 600Kcr. That's a chunk when you only had 1.5mil in the bank, I'm sure you'll agree. So I was on a ridiculously regular BB job when I get interdicted. Normal procedure: Kill throttle, change fire group from Discovery Scanner to Kill Warrant Scanner, then wait to see which NPC won today's lottery. An Adder, 2 combat ranks above mine. OK, not too tricky, so I fire up the KWS, but gods is it slow! Meanwhile Mr Adder is giving it some and my shields dropped in record time. OK, forget the KWS, Switch to my weapons. MCs deploying, Beams deploying, Hull deploying into the depths of space. When the weapons came back on, the game was on. I was like one of those Heavyweight Boxing matches where it looks like both fighters have forgotten every damn thing they've ever been taught and are simply flailing at each other. Not that we weren't connecting, but there was no finesse, just a race to 0% hull. We were face to face when it got to single digits. I felt sure I was going to make it. One more MC volley would seal it. Then his shields came on and mine were still taking a nap. Him: 2% and a scooping session. Me: 0%, rebuy session.
3Kcr in rebuy, 3kcr in rares that I was finishing off collecting. Bum!

i have played tons of piracy missions in the last BGS operation to unlock borasetani pathogenics - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=237033 - because anarchistic factions ted to give out piracy missions. i was very much surprised that trade data and system map work better than eddb.io!

- use trade-route filter in galaxy map, buy trade data
- search source of a commodity and go to station exporting those goods (is listed under exported items).
- scan traders leaving that staion

... takes around 20 minutes per mission. after a while you know the sources of most commodities around. no problem in timeframes of mission timers.

Boosted in a station in my type 7, how the hell I survived that is only from dropping gear and FA off and some creative jinxing ( a old error tip from a simular thread)

Was screwing around in the XBOX menu (End of video where it goes from super cruise to normal space instantly is when I reopened game tab) and had been interdicted by NPC Anaconda.. Friend mentioned I was taking damage. Jumped back into elite to see 50% hull. Shut the shields down as fast as I could and tried boosting away but Mr. Enforcer had the aim of robin hood. Nailed my PP again and sent me to the rebuy.

It was pretty funny.
