Okay folks so this has come up a couple of times and while I usually abhor manipulation of game mechanics to make life easy, it's already been accepted the 00H 00M mission bonus update situation is a bug - one that has no current fix schedule.
We cannot resolve the issue, but there is a bit of a workaround to stop cheeky mission givers nicking (most of) the bonus money they were supposedly offering you, for anyone that may not have discovered this themselves.
I do NOT know the code for the game, nor do I claim the below is perfectly correct. But I do work with SOME coding and I do have a very analytical mind. It will work more effectively the more missions you have in a single system, so don't bother if you're the honest and admittedly ballsy kinda chap that runs individual missions for immersion.
Here goes:
It currently looks like mission updates for bonuses are generated at random per mission every time a particular event occurs in the target system for each mission. These "events" are generally dropping from or jumping into supercruise.
When you first jump into the system you may receive bonus updates, as this constitutes an event. Any interdiction etc. you submit to will similarly have a chance to generate a bonus update against each mission you have on you give you are dropping from SC and again when you jump to it.
The time you are given to complete this bonus mission is based on the current distance between you and the station.
They've obviously failed to correctly code the minimum time on an update, or failed to code it at all. This means when the event generates, if you're incredibly close, you'll get almost no time to complete - 00H 00M.
What happens when you drop to the station? You're dropping from SC. That's an event. What does this do? Yup...generates random bonuses. So for any mission that hasn't had an update applied, there's a chance it will generate a bonus payment. And how far are you from the station? Nine or so damn kilometers. Compared to the distance between the station and the star you came in on, that's an incredibly small distance. So what time do you get generated...? Yup, nothing.
How do we utilise this? See below:
-Come into system
-Target station and head towards it
-IMMEDIATELY throttle down and drop from SC
-Throttle up, re-enter SC
-Repeat
Within 2/3 drops you should have a large quantity of your missions generate bonus updates thanks to the events. And because you did it right near the star you'll have the maximum amount of time on the bonus. Bonuses average about 80k for me, and if I have a full set of missions, that'll average a tasty extra bonus.
Regardless or not of correctness, the above works. I don't bother updating every one of my missions - the nature of probability means that you'll update several missions on your first drop and after 2 or 3 you're updating one mission per drop - but it's a good way to take some of the update frustration out.
Also worth noting you can still get 00H 00M time on the bonus if you drop from SC a short distance from the station, even if not directly into it.
