That next ship?

I think I'm in the market for a new ship.
I've 51 million in total assets and am feeling my Vulture "Show me the money!" has taken me as far as it can.
I have upgrade all the way but have hit the power management ceiling and "might" be getting bored of it.

The only issue I see is the usual problem, its not enough cash.

Am I better off with a T7 to grind upwards? Or is there a better way?

I'm in a similar position. I'm probably going to hold off buying a new ship until I get my Cobra MkIV, though. :)
I'm thinking the MkIV and Horizons will keep me busy until I have enough cash to move onto some of the 'big boys'!

I was in a similar boat a couple of months ago. I left the Vulture in the hangar for fun times and bought a T7 which I proceeded to grind the hell out of, with much boredom ensuing. It worked though and with a suitable smuggling run or 20, I bought a Python in Sirius Corps Space for a 15% discounted fee and kitted it out as well. If you want a pure combat killing machine, you cannot upgrade from the Vulture without a lot more money, unless of course you fancy one of those shoe boxes with fairy wings that is the FAS!

Why do you want to buy a new ship? Do you want to do anything else besides combat? Because, if you want to continue with combat, you might as well stay in the Vulture. You won't find a ship that is much better at it, anyway. Not for a reasonable price.

The only situation where you need to switch to another ship from the Vulture will be if you change your playstyle and in-game occupation.

There are a number of ships that are at or nearly at your price range. Tbh skip the T7- if you did another 10-15 mil in the Vulture selling your bounties to Hudson or ALD you can get a D spec Python to go trading in with 270 odd cargo. Obviously purchase and kit her our in Lee Yong Rui space (spell check?!)

For much cheaper you have the Asp and FAS. You could A grade the Asp with that cash but not the FAS, but they are both great ships.

personally, I went the Python route and with all the CG's she got me through, now I have all 4 of them and I am happy as Larry!

If the current goals in Xelabara end up as hoped, I'll net about 8M which "should" get me up to the next ship I'm after - the Python! Trouble is it will be very bare bones so it's probably wiser to grind a bit more funds first...

Yeah but a bare bones Python that can land on outposts, carry over 270t and can be worked on while you trade, THATS Fun!

i can't seem to export coriollis on my phone, but 64 mil without the 15% discount will give you jump range, shields and the cargo capacity. oh, and 5 gimballed pulse for defence.

If you don't mind grinding for Imperial ranks for a bit you can get a Clipper that will do everything a T7 can and more. IMHO the T7 is an awful ship, it's only redeeming features are fuel economy, jump range and unusually good yaw. If you have a very safe profitable trade route you can grind yourself to profit with a T7, otherwise it's a pirate piñata. In contrast the Clipper costs a little bit more, is much more stylish and is much more fun to fly. The Clipper is also reasonably good at combat, so you can mix things up without having to change ships.

The FAS and FDL (in 1.5) are decent alternatives, for reasonable prices. But the op isn't there yet. So yes, if he wants combat, best stay in the Vulture for now.

I'm working my way through all of them, though not necessarily in order. Next up, dropship. Not till after I get back from the distant Worlds expedition though, probably.

Here are my 2 cents :

  • If you plan to do some bulk trading, get the imperial clipper. +side : it can be quite fun in combat, cost not much more than T7.
  • If you are more into fighting, I would go for the FAS (cheaper than python, very nice power, armor, agility and firepower)

If you enjoy the way your vulture works I think your best bet is to step up to a Fer de Lance. Unfortunately you're probably going to want a little more cash before you do that so you're not flying it around with two C1 pulses.

If your vulture is well fit and you're a confident pilot, you shouldn't have too much trouble bounty hunting in HiRES or maybe even hazardous if you're feeling brave. It'll be a bit of a grind, but I think that's your best bet unless you want to go trading, which personally makes my head hurt.

All good thoughts, thanks.

I do prefer combat to trading but if I have a goal in mind I can hit the commodities with the best of them. I think I will try out a couple and see what fits.

I don't have 1.5 yet but am intrigued by the Asp scout. Like most I started as a smuggler and the idea of a "super" cold ship sounds great. Am wondering about a stealth wing ambush scenario.

Back to the grinding!

Just thought if you really wanted a Python now, take a trip to Diaguandri and/or Lembava 15% discount on the Python which i think brings the price down to 48 Mill, or at least under your Credit now, but watch out for insurance. You can buy some cargo space and earn Loads of Dosh trading to save up for the battle modules for the Python or Trader with a bite!!!

T7 has been the most disappointing ship for me in progression so far

(Sidewinder-Hauler-Cobra-T6-T7-Asp- Python-Vulture-Anaconda)

It's a lot of trading grind, for ok but not amazing profits.

I sold it, bought an asp and vulture, and mixed exploring and combat until I could afford an Anaconda.

Easy one - FAS!..although you'll need approx. 80mil for full A spec; but you can work your way to that, using it as multipurpose to do anything in the game!
