That Plasma cutter is looking pretty sweet.

I'm really interested to know how well be able to use this. Hopefully this is a sneak peak of salvaging. Its gameplay like this that attracted me to space engineers and shipbreaker because I love the idea of cutting into a derelict ship and exploring / looting it.

Update: According to Obsidian Ant it's called an Arc Cutter and can be used for scavenging.

I'd like to think it'll work on someone's helmet airline, as a comedy stealth tactic. Or to disable their magboots.
I hadn't thought of that but that does sound hilarious lol. Reminds me of the old days in metal gear solid when you could sneak up behind someone strap some c4 to their waist.

Damn I hope we can use that thing to cut out gems from caves or bits of notable phenomenons in EVA. For science of course :p
That would be pretty awesome. This made me think what if this is how we can break into the guardian ruins? Just torch your way though the door. Same with thargoid sites.

Feeling stupid. I checked in here expecting to find a new paintjob for a certain Gutamaya ship with erectile similarities...
Understandable. After I posted it I realized "plasma cutter" could be interpreted as imperial cutter with plasma accelerators. Lol

I have to admit that little snippet of footage did something to alay my fears that Odyssey was just going to be hollow bullet-spongey-gunplay. (which I opened a thread about last week)
Remember too we never see very long uninterrupted clips of combat just short ones. To me that suggests that like ship combat the pace might be broken up. But back on topic the combat aspect is what most are looking forward to and will appeal to the most people. It makes sense they will try and dress it up as best they can. I honestly think we'll be doing salvaging and exploring most of the time so we can get our combat gear engineered/upgraded.

In the Q&A session they talked about using this to break into bases, this can be to steal things to activate things or to kill people.

They also said that NPCs will patrol bases and if they see you using the cutter, they will respond. One scenario described was breaking into a seemingly abandoned and deserted base, to then hear the noise of a dropship arriving and disembarking a squad of heavily armed soldiers/pirates with all the consequences that may entail.

Although it wasnt said in the stream, i suspect the O2 cannister is destructible.
That could make things interesting if you were attempting to break in, and were then spotted by an NPC stormtrooper who shot at you but missed and hit the cannister causing it to explode.

It's like a bit of Hardspace: Shipbreaker implemented into Elite. Which is by no means a bad thing. Hardspace is in early access and can be found here:

Why disabling the magboots, if you can cut off the whole feet??? More Imagination please!;)

I should have thought more about this, I bow to the more evil amongst us .... :ROFLMAO:

@Sensei Jacksama that would be excellent too! I guess you could tie a grenade to someone's back, pull the pin, and run?! There is the potential for some hilarious emergent gameplay here for sure!

I could imagine gankers using sneaking up on ppl, planting a bomb on them and waiting till they got back in their ship to blow it.

Ooooh another good idea! To be honest, the people I had in mind to target in these ways, are members of my own squadron. But I imagine there is a big crossover with griefers too lol!
