Ships That Rattle Isn't Just for Show

Get it? The Diamondback is a type of rattle snake.

('-'; )

Seriously, this little ship has pretty much everything you'd ever want for a 500k package.

good hardpoint layout, it's quick, can stack in a hell of alot of fuel (for quick offense to other systems that are a bit distant due to its pretty amazing jump range), maneuverable and can have a pretty tanky shield for it's size. (it ain't no courier, but oh well.)

mine is full A kit, because why not? Running one medium and one small pulse, one medium gatling and one small gatling.

With its large power distributor, I'm tempted to rock 4 pulses and see where it goes, but DAMN this ship is fun.

And if it's this fun, I can't wait for the courier.

If you're talking about the Explorer one, then I must agree with you, it's a great YELLOW ship, so yellow I have this feeling I'm driving a space school-bus of some sort.
But jokes aside, it's a very capable and durable ship.

Grabbed one for doing some exploration, it's VERY sturdy and functional, I still have to try it for combat though.

I bought a DB Scout last night after watching this.

But I'm kinda new, so I don't really have the credits to dump into it.

And I keep reading all over these forums that it can't really take beating, the shields are weak. I'm not looking forward to finding that out the hard way.

As a person who has mainly PVE'ed so far, the scout is an incredibly agile ship with good range. I used it to farm CZ's till I got my vulture.

I'd say it's a huge step up for viper pilots, especially those who are new to space sims and aren't the best at controlling and aiming yet. The Scout can glue itself to the weak points of an enemy ship and blow out their power plants with great precision. :)

The downsides are the lack of firepower; you won't be hunting pythons or anacondas solo in a timely manner. You have less shielding than a viper, but with a shield booster + military grade armor you'll have ample time to get out of a jam if your shields go down. The ships great agility also allows you to evade incoming fire np.

Whether it's exploring, trading or bounty hunting, the scout can do a little bit of everything. It's a solid ship to use until you find your feet. :D

True enough. Once you get that footing though, you're better off upgrading to a Cobra if you're going to play open. Or finding a way to stealth to avoid interdictions from wings of FdL/Clipper.

Why Cobra? Scout has same shield's, hardpoints, 2 extra utility and more agility & armor.

Faster in normal-space.
Forgot I had my thrusters upgraded last time I was looking at the shipyard making my ship faster than the stock Cobra they were comparing it to. Guess it's up to preference as I can't stand the Cobra's turning and 2-4 speed difference doesn't seem importanat, especially with the speed boost you get with A rated thrusters as my Build is below optimal mass. In fact I don't think you can get it above if you tried from what I've seen...maybe with hull & bulkhead you could I guess.

You should try a Combat Fitted Stealth Scout then.

After having my Scout for a while, I really love it, it's great fun to fly and fight in. But, I do find it's a bit too lightweight - or maybe this pilot is a bit too lightweight - when it comes to taking on bigger ships.

In my experience (don't kill me!) when it comes to combat:

Sidewinder / Eagle: Great fun! But either you need to be exceptionally good, or the other guy/NPC needs to be really bad.
Scout / Viper / Cobra: Faster, tougher, more weapons, but still huge fun. Still struggle against larger Pythons / Anacondas, particularly since 1.3.
Vulture: Agile tank with big guns. It's too easy a choice.

I haven't tried the Courier or Fer De Lance so can't comment on those. The heavy fighter is one of the most agile, and the speed advantage of the Scout/Viper/Cobra isn't enough to be much of an edge in dogfights. I've tried a few assassination missions up against Anacondas and just can't manage to get it down before I have to turn tail and run. With a Vulture (in 1.2 at least) it was easy. I'm really enjoying the extra difficulty, but it's not really a practical choice for me at least.

I can consistently beat NPC Python's and the 2 CMDR Python's I have fought one ran the other got dumb and died. I believe both the CMDR one's only had Gimbaled mounted weapons, no idea how it'd have played out if they were turret's.I avoid PC & Elite AI Conda''s but below Elite AI I can beat no problem.

The key to beating larger targets in the DBS is judicious use of chaff, shield cells and silent running. It can be done, but you are asking the hardware to beat something that's got more shields, armor and guns, so of course, it's more difficult.

Ty. I can see why people like DBS as a combat ship its great. Not massive on internals but once you get your head around the fact it is described as a 'combat explorer' you soon realise its really good at combat and exploring :)

I actually named my build The Diamondback Interceptor because of it's speed, handleing, and range, ;)

Recently bought and tricked out a DBS mainly because I was looking at jumping back into my favourite ship (the Viper) but had read that the scout was (sort of) an upgrade. Got to admit that I am loving the little Scout, although I have yet to push the creature - hopefully I'll be able to give it a decent spin later this week.
