Ships That Rattle Isn't Just for Show

I should have clarified, it doesnt work for the NPC's in RES sites. Works from SOME pirates, but I think its all based on their Ranking. But what I mean it doesnt work, is usually at 1.5km away, you break being resolved. However, NPC's turrets are still shooting you. Needs more detailed testig, but theres too many variables to get consistent/confirmed results.

I'll have a prod at this over the weekend, see if I can get a clearer picture of what's happening and why.

That would be great, maybe all this stealth talk is just placebo... falsely bolstering our bravery against all sorts of ships

To be fair, the Diamondback Scout runs ice cold, when fully loaded it's only 27 c or so and that's with a shield.

With that said, it [is] a fast-attack craft, so the use of silent-running is going to be good with this.

I really should try silent running some time since I have no experience with it.

High all, sorry for this slight derivation from the topic of stealth fighting the DBS but I had a DBS related query and this seems a good place to ask it!

havent been playing the game too long and I've currently settled on the Cobra as my vessel of choice as it seems to fight reasonably well plus has half decent cargo for all that so as to allow occasional running missions.

i was running the numbers on the DBS and found that for a similar cost of to my current vessel I could create a DBS that has the same damage output, overall speed and similar range BUT with overall more powerful shields due to more shield boosters plus the mobility.

however, to gain this I do sacrifice cargo space, fuel tank size and have to go through the whole thing of selling and buying up a new ship.

so the question is, IS it worth the effort to gain the additional mobility and shield size? At the moment I only play solo so there is no PVP element to take into account.

as a side note, I was thinking of branching out into exploring as well, again the cobra and the DBS cost about the same when geared up as cheap explorers but with a few key differences:

1-the DBS has superior jump range of around 25.7 LY when fully fuelled VS the 22.99 of the cobra.

2- the cobra though, allows for the fitting of an automatic repair module AND has a maximum range of 299 VS 219 LY of the DBS which would not have space for the repair module.

bearing that in mind is the cobra worth keeping ahold of or would the DBS still make it as an explorer?

Okay I'll admit I have no experience when it comes to exploration - have yet to dip my toe into those waters but with no doubt happen sometime soon(ish).

Instead of number crunching just answer which ship do you prefer? Both can make it as explorers and from what I have read (again see above) if you are careful you will not need the AFMU( is that what it is? ) while the Cobra fares better as a trader/cargo ship. The Scout on the other hand has the better performance where combat is concerned, although as you have stated you play solo so against the AI either ship would work do.

So to answer your question, go with what you feel is best for you and how you fly, just avoid spending too long trying to min/max ( unless that is something that you really enjoy doing, then chocks away old boy! )...

if you prefer more combat, do dbs. if you prefer more trading/trading missions, do cobra.

cobra is a better explorer than the dbs (it can jump more often in shorter time, and you can outfit a faster fuelscoop on it).

you could simply fly the dbs for a while, till you find out what you like (this is what i always do) and resell it, if you prefer your cobra. you'll losse 100 k max (+ outfitting time).

if you ask me, cobra is the better multipurpose ship. but combat is really fun in a dbs.

Thank you for the insight, I'll have to give it a try I guess once I get a bit more credits in the bank so I can outfit it how I like!

as a quick additional query, are gimballed cannons worth taking over gimballed multicannons? I've seen vids of people destroying enemy ships with all cannon load outs but I wasn't sure if that's only viable on the larger vessels, and whether it's worth going all out cannons in the mid and small or only in the mid slots?

Cannons are great against large craft but even with the gimballed version hitting anything small and nippy becomes a chore - IMHO MCs are the better general purpose kinetic weapons.

I once kitted out an all cannon Asp.... it was a lot of fun, especially the boom boom boom of the cannons (one of my favourite sounds in game).
