Newcomer / Intro That was just too close! The sun wouldn`t let go.

Ok, so after getting caught out of fuel in the middle of nowhere again (and having to use the Fuel rats- Thankyou, Fuel rats!) I decided to make use of a fuel scoop.

So I jumped into a system near the Sun and was scooping up fuel at 50% speed quite happily when I was suddenly interdicted. I began struggling to escape and looked for the escape point - Which was towards the sun!

Well it was a case of cop out and try fighting a battle I`ll likely lose in this Sidewinder or we both burn up in the sun or I escape. And my stubborn spirit to do or die kicked in. I dived for the Sun where the escape point was. I twisted and turned and suddenly my pursuer had gone! I was still ok. Then I had the dreaded heat warnings and panic alarm things began fizzing. I dropped a heat sink and headed back out away from the sun. I kicked on the boost. I couldn`t jump yet cos my next system was obscured, but all seemed ok. The heat sink had cooled things down...

After a little while it occurred to me that I wasn`t moving away very fast. Then I saw a yellowish tinge in front of my cockpit window. To my shock I realise it was a fire flame burst (I don`t know the term) of the sun! I looked back at the sun and it wasn`t getting smaller. Cripes! I realised I was being pulled towards it, effectively slowly flying backwards. In a panic, realising I had very little time, I tried to jump, but couldn`t- then remembered.

I went into my systems map and choose a different lock target- a nearby station. Then I was able to jump, just as my alarms started again and things began to fizz. I used my last heatsink. It still seemed agonisingly slow, but I escaped the pull and got away.

Very cool! :)

Pffft. Missed a good tanning opportunity.

I've been on the receiving end of one of those. Went too close. Emergency drop right into a solar flare. Quite the exciting time!

Incidentally, if you had turned away from the sun, the interdictor can sometimes get caught in the emergency drop zone and fail. The question is whether or not your FSD will fail first.

Solar flare- that`s the word I was thinking of! Thanks.

I suggest you bind a key to jump into supercruise - then you can just go into supercruise to escape the sun and you don't need a destination "lock".

If you get broken out of cruise close to a star and lack heat sinks then the thing to do is shut down all non essential systems so that they don't add more heat.

Note in that situation the essential systems are Thrusters; FSD; Life Support and Sensors.

1. Totally agree that you should bind a key (or button) to "engage supercruise" - it is a great facility to have when target system is obscured.

2. If you get interdicted whilst scooping, just submit as that will usually drag you away from the star's corona plus there is a shorter FSD cooldown before you can engage supercruise.

P.S. A spectacular method of self-destructing is to engage hyper-jump whilst fuel-scooping. [knocked out]

Still a lot for me to learn. I will find that control. Cheers.

p.s. edit: I completely didn`t realise there was a Super Cruise. I thought it was another name for the hyperdrive.
