That was... odd (Interdiction encounter)

Hey all,

Just had an odd event...

Got interdicted (NPC) and submitted as usual. The moment I left super cruise I dropped chaff, a heatsink and boosted. The ship that interdicted me didn't even get close. It never hit me and never even went red on the scanner. A clean escape. Nice. That ship was soon a wobbly, unresolved blob on my scanner, well over 5km away and FSD was charging for a low-wake. It was then my ship's dash suddenly sparked, just the once, and my hull was down by 5% instantly. I wonder if that ship managed to fire off a missile, but my PDs remained silent - no ammo used. This ship has FOUR PDs, spaced out over the six available utility slots for excellent coverage. Ship is a Panther II, configured for trade and escape from any hostile encounter.

So, what might have happened here?

power defence force dropped into the instance with you and you rammed them? It does sound like you hit something and that's the obvious candidate.

Good thought, but there was nothing even remotely close to me. I was flying through empty space.

That's what the game was showing you but that doesn't mean the game didn't think there was something there. Ramming phantom objects is rather common.

All I can go on is what the game is showing me. The ship that interdicted me was over 5km away, and nothing else on the scanner. Could have been a bit of debris - do they even spawn in "interdicted" instances? I've never noticed it.
