That was too close

I cut it too close and almost lost my Type 9.

I was headed to the mail slot, when I saw a Beluga in the distance. I thought I could beat it out through the slot.

I was wrong.

I got wedged tight. I couldn't back up and I couldn't wiggle free. I was stuck, but good.

I watched hopelessly, as the countdown ticked towards my imminent doom. My shields failed and I was sure I was going to face an 8 million cr rebuy. My shields came back, just before the station opened fire.

The Beluga blew up first. I guess it was a bigger target. :D

I boosted through the fireball and was free! I hightailed it out of there, with only 38K cr damage and a 200 cr fine. Luck was with me today.

Has anyone else survived an encounter like this? If so, please share your story.

I once got my Clipper wedged in the mailslot by a Type-7. I panicked and mashed the boost button a couple of times. I also burst free in a cloud of debris, but this was my fault. I faceplanted the back wall of the station, then my DC took over and parked my ship. I was on about 30% hull.

I also tried boosting, but it didn't help. I was completely stuck. Once the Beluga blew up, I did boost. I was headed out and I wanted to get away from the station guns asap.

I tried to give you rep, but apparently, I need to spread some around, so... Virtual Rep++

I had mindlessly entered the slot without gaining permission. All the bells and whistles started up , and I attempted to reverse out the way I came. As I was backing out I felt a thud and was jammed tight by some unknown craft. Panic started to creep in. I would hate for an unforced error to cause a re-buy. I mean really hate it....

It was getting close. I am pointed into the station with the timer running out, so I boosted into the station. It forced me free, but I was hurtling towards the rear wall of the station. Another unforced error incoming....

I use my Thruster Down to dissipate my speed, but lost sight of the wall that was going to eat my ship. I changed to upwards thrust and maintained my turn, when I belly flopped onto the back wall at about 200 m/s. I lost shields and as I waited for the boom, I noticed the timer. It was still ticking, and my ship had around 15% hull. I had to get out. I lined up, planning to Boost to safety. Nope. T-9 lumbering through the slot, but it was going out. So I swept up on it's tail and wriggled around the T-9 to escape with less that 5% as the station opened fire.

This can also be used a parable to give credence to the notion that some ships need huge shields. If I was in my FAS, the belly flop would have ended my chances. It was only because I was in my FdL, that I made it out with any atmosphere at all.

Experiences like this, keep one on their toes. It was nearly a month before I forgot to get clearance before entering the slot. I still need a booster shot every now and then.

I have my Cutter since yesterday...still no issues with it at the dock but I'm taking care of how I'm moving, coming from a Python that thing feels huge and scary in "small" places.

A long time ago.. in a cobra 3.. smuggling.

I didn't survive.

Came in hot at top speed with all systems turned off and silent running engaged.
Approaching slot, "Hey.. what is that.. WHAT IS THAT?!" I scream, noticing the dark shape drifting up into the slot that, for the last 45 seconds, had been empty.
Seconds to go, 100 meters out, quick switch to right screen to engage at least thrusters and disable silent running.
I get the left 'wing' tip up high enough to glance off of the Anaconda that had filled the slot but it still sends me careening into the wall.
I bounce off the wall, glance off of a Vulture, grind over the top of a Type 7 and then I'm floating within the station.
4% hull, holy crap I survived.
*notice a control tower drifting by the cockpit*
*&%^! FLIGHT ASSIST!

Slammed the FA hotkey to turn it back on and very gently tapped my right wingtip against the side of a building. Boom.

>.<

Not many have issues docking its when that NPC T9 see you and thinks the gap between your fuselage and nacelle is enough space then find you stupidly decided in the optional extras to have a wing to connect them.

I had an amusing station exit last night. I was in my Python leaving a station, but there was a NPC Cobra ahead of me taking his time lining up to the slot. So I tried boosting out over him. Miss ed the Cobra, but hit the edge of the slot. Bounced off and then bounced off the bottom of the slot as well. Then the Cobra whizzed past overhead. So I sedately followed him out [noob]
