Engineers That's a weird G3 DDT roll....

I finally unlocked the nutty Professor. Links are to the ships with full stats, nearest 5A to buy and roll on are 200LY away..... Spent most of yesterday doing the 5k and gathering my fragments, so I was ranking him up and along the way I get this roll on 5A for my FDL and I don't know if this is a keep and save situation or what? Never had a positive Optimal Mass before, always the trade but its only a G3.

Opt Mass +1.3
Opt Mult +16.6

So the Optimal Mass is now 851t, Min Mass 425.

The reason I am asking is because I have a Vulture that weighs 404t, and I am curious when the thrusters say Min Mass, does that mean for use without blackouts/redouts? How is Opt Mass represented to us? Compared to the difference between torque and horsepower for example. You feel them both but you feel them differently.

If we manage to drastically undershoot the Min Mass can we end up with like Robotech/anime thruster handling?

Minimum mass rating for thrusters simply means that reducing your ship's total mass below that will not further improve your speed or turning rates.

Same is true for shield generators with respect to the ship's hull mass.

Ah ok, so essentially if I'm below the cap I am free to add weight without impacting performance. I suppose I'll ship my Asp over and swap thrusters with it, it might come in handy for some unforeseen reason

Correct, that is the maximum performance cap. Of course being even lighter increases your jump range so it's not totally pointless, but your normalspace flight properties won't change.

I have noticed a tremendous benefit to my ships turn rate far below optimal mass. In fact I have 2 sets of G5 DD thrusters for my Python one which has 100 ton higher On gives a higher pitch/yaw rate although the mass of my Python is well below optimal mass of both. My understanding was that at 50% OM there ceases to be more turn advantage.

50% of optimal mass is exactly the minimum mass rating for all thrusters :)

Except for the Enhanced Performance Drives, but the same rules for minimum mass rating still apply
