General / Off-Topic That's it! I'm off to play NMS!

My internet has cut off again. Lol

Curse you Sky. Curse you. -_-

It's a shame it takes 15 minutes to load it.. lol

It's improving too, I'd almost recommend it, but only on sale. :p

Now, if i could only figure out what the heck I'm doing... :D

What do you guys do when your internet or servers take a dump?

Funny you mention this as I had a bout of foul weather yesterday - on a satellite - and had multiple disconnects.
I am not sure how game developers any more think everyone has fast, reliable internet with unlimited bandwidth.
I have had plenty of games where I couldn't get DLC's or add-ons because of the huge file sizes - looking at you ME3.
I live way out in the country and internet access is not something I take for granted.
In fact, despite being a '85'er, I almost didn't buy ED because of the online requirement. Guess I'd still be playing Oolite.

Well at first I wonder whether I should curse the router, my PC, the game, or the internet as a whole.

I then remember that any one of them could be at fault at a given time, so I curse the lot.

After a good five minutes, I see if the situation is resolved. I then mourn modern technology, vow never to use WiFi again, and curse some more.

If that still hasn't done it, I'll pick my bass up and jam a groove out while muttering some comically insulting improv lines. Usually cursing my router, my PC, the game, and the internet as a whole.

Your accessing Internet via a microwave tower? When it works can you play in Open? Presently I live near a micro city with decent Internet but by mid summer I'm moving back to the sticks where it's going to be a dish and I'm kind of worried anbout that.

For 'political reasons' my internet was being throttled to practically zero between 7pm - 1am every night (5-11GMT) was so bad that most of my expat neighbours moved areas. 7pm on the dot, no way to access ED, went on for months. I became an expert on the ED tutorial missions & Assetto Corsa.

Quite frustrating since most of the guy's I fly with are based in the UK.

I thought all you secret government agent types had super duper satelite phone connections and unlimited high speed access:(

A game that forces you to be on the net, even Solo, is a weak link, a liability. I purchase such games extremely warily. In fact i got it because I was so disappointed with NMS. I`ve recently had some server shut downs that make me realise even more how much of a weak link is this reliance on `always-on` net is. There should be an Offline mode.

This is why I have a bunch of great games that do not rely on the internet. It`s also why most of my gaming cash goes to GOG.

Lol, if only I was a government agent. Apparently the area out there is still being throttled, all because a Sheik is under house arrest, unfortunately anyone within a 5 mile area of Diraz (Bahrain) is screwed. As much as I love living in the Persian gulf, there is a bunch of stuff out there that can drive people insane!

The ironic thing is the internet and ED is way better out there compared to my Virgin media fibre optic here in London.

Fortunately where I live losing inet access is practically unheard of. And with ED servers being rather stable so far this season (begone sunday-drops!) I dont really have this situation. :)

I'm still waiting for proper cable Internet at my house. Its a new build. At my old house i had 100mb fibre. Here I've got 13mb dsl. Its painful for game updates on Steam. Apparently its a big problem with new builds. Its intermittent sometimes too which plays havoc with Elite. 👹

I've had my bandwidth throttled to 128Kbps and solo still works fine. Can't say that I'd have high expectations of open though and I'd pity anybody who ended up instanced with you :D

If I eventually tried to log in the most I could do is sit on the landing pad and enjoy the view in VR, trying to undock would cause a delay that could last for minutes, entering hyperspace would kick me back to the main menu. Tutorials was the only option.

Just found an article on the I had to put up with - http://bigstory.ap.org/article/a241...rnet-disruption-bahrain-rally-site-deliberate

I'm not a protester honest :) just wanted to fly my pretend space ship!

I just upgraded my internet to 120x12 connection.
But from time to time things do happen, such as outages or power failures.
At those times I resort to an antique form of analog entertainment called "Reading a book".
For those who don't know, "Books" are printed paper containing stories or other forms of information stored in a human-readable format.
There is also an alternative form of antiquated social networking known as "going outside". This involves leaving your dwelling to encounter other human beings and interacting with them in verbal discourse.

I am very lucky. In last couple of years, the only time I lost connection was because I forgot to pay the bills. :D

But hey, no shame in turning to NMS in the time of crisis. After the last two updates, it started to be quite fun. I have several hundred hours clocked, myself, mainly because it runs better on my laptop than Elite, so whenever I am abroad I play it, instead.

Though a dirty pleasure of mine is actually Rebel Galaxy. Simple, but very atmospheric. Awesome music. Love it to bits.

Hah, I use the soundtrack for ED too at times. It would be perfect for MC. :)

...What do you guys do when your internet or servers take a dump?...

I play Open Transportation Tycoon Deluxe. Great fun, and based on a game by Chris Sawyer, who I believe is involved in ED in some manner. My next 'job' at Sunford Transport is to convert my heavily integrated rail network to mono-rail.

Or I play STALKER, either "Call of Pripyat" or "Shadow of Chernobyl", which with their a-life systems and a large number of extensive mods, still holds my attention.

I have games, including NMS, but there's always something I would prefer to do that requires internet.

Hah!

I'm playing ED and NMS at the same time! lol! :)

While I am waiting for my next 50t of "FREE" Aisling Duval propaganda material every 29 minutes for Power Play, I jump over to my PS4 PRO to continue working on my NMS base, and crafting Lubricant commodities for $$.

Works out quite nicely when both games have me in money grind/wait for respawns mode. ;)

I definitely like the fact that NMS is 100% playable offline. I wish ED provided the same option.
