Newcomer / Intro That's it, I'm ready to give up !

You should keep at it, i was about to give up with the game and loads of people suggested things and one of them worked and where i had trouble taking out a sidewinder, i was able to take out several sidewinders and gaining roughly 36k in bounties.......then i found a target in a cobra that has a bounty of 36k, i do an interdiction after seeing that he is alone, none of that ' party of #/#' on its name, so i did an interdiction and when i succeeded, 2 others came in as well, thats when i just quit the game, my shields were gone in 2 seconds flat.

I will not bother interdicting things anymore, its clearly a bug..

@Ledhead900
I didn't have the 9k! I also only play a few hours a week so my two weeks is probably 2 hours for most people.

Fair enough, sorry if I came off cocky, It was 5am for me when I wrote that and I had not slept a wink yet. If you picked the game up during beta you would have been given an Eagle which could use or sell for instant starting credits. That or doing a bounty mission or two would have sorted the cash problem. I started playing thinking oh yea trade will be the only way I can make any funds to start doing anything quickly found out that the starting ship is useless for trade runs and you can't haul enough to make any real profit capable of upgrading the thing. So I turned to Killing Wanted people :) where on my first run ever I made 30k in under an hour.

You don't even have to do anything just go to weak signals or nav points scan target if its wanted kill it usually you can find a kill pirate pirate mission on the way as well for a little extra bonus as you are just doing what you are doing. I got lucky and tended to find sidewinders and eagles and MKIII's attacking Trade ships so the shields were completely offline on all of them every time :) when I started attacking security would show up and so I just layed waste not a bad way to go considering each ship was like 12k of credits I only killed 5 ships total that run and made 50k from that. The best part was I did not even have leave the starting system so near zero fuel consumption was used and I did not even drop below the first shield ring.

I know if I get lucky like this again It will be over much quicker because I can afford the to rebuy the Eagle I sold which I will then fit with gimble turrets and a missile pod and a wanted scanner and modules would be fitted for combat so likely hull upgrades and shield and power house upgrades definitely will get the interdiction module. I was doing all of the above with the standard lasers which don't track the target haha. If It tracked the target it would have been over on the first two passes at the ships I attacked.

Keep it at tho mate, 2 hours is not enough time to really judge anything and all sim games take actual time.

Just wait until you boost your brand new, fully loaded with Palladium Asp into a station wall on take off.

That seems to happen to a lot of folk...

I had to start over a couple of times before I got the hang of things.

My first huge rage quit occurred a couple of days after I got Elite. I had lots of astronomical data, I was heading to my first main faction's station, and I was poor as dirt. As I got closer to home, I started getting interdicted more frequently. I've always been able to avoid most interdictions, but one ship got me. It was a much larger ship than my free Eagle, and its weapons far superior. With only a few shots, I was dead and poorer than ever.

I threw my controller down on my floor and went outside to smoke.

At first, all I could think was, "Forget that game! I'm finished." After a few minutes of fuming and thinking about it, I wiped my save and started over. Now I have four ships, nearly 2 million credits, many astronomical objects to my name, the Federation is my ally, and I was finally able to visit and move to Sol.

It's hard to say what made me keep pushing... probably the fact that Evochron Mercenary is the only space game I've really liked in years, and even its inferior to Elite. So, I guess it was a lack of options... that and I really liked the combat and exploration. I just had to be more careful, and always stay armed and shielded. I go nowhere without weapons and shields.

keasy, I'm glad you were able to return to the game. I've been where you are, and I know how frustrating it can be. Here's hoping you have more success and fun.

Welcome back OP!!!!

We've all had moments where you think to yourself "Why for the love of god do I continue", which normally happens after a slip up of some kind or another. Stick with it!!!!

Regards

It's true there's quite a steep learning curve.
It was weeks before I realised that the slider on the map showing jump range limits was adjustable! After that I just set it to max before plotting and I've not had any more routeing problems....

Yes, it does, but I can never understand why they do that. It's so easy to avoid, just by keeping landing gear down when approaching or leaving a station. I've been playing quite a lot over several weeks and never accidentally Boosted yet. :D

I tried to boost my A-kitted Asp through the rotating modules of a station one time because my destination was right behind there.

Stupidest thing ever. :D

I have this vision of of a stick of celery being shoved through a rotating fan, lol. There's one station I go to (forget the name) which has no light shining on it and it's just a black shape against the stars. I always give that a wide berth until I can see the station's entrance. I wish the ship lights had a bit more range!

Well, first up thanks to all you positively positive folks for your positive words of encouragement.

Secondly, I moved back to the last system I was in and sold all the gold back for a minimum loss after which I took the advice of buying a better FSD. Nice 1! Ta muchly.

Thirdly sorry for the appalling first post and it's broken sounding English, I had typed it in such a hasty anger led rant that I hit submit post before reading it!!!! LOLz0rz.

I'm again back playing and grinding away whilst drinking rather a large measure of my favourite Russian wheat grain spirit. ;)

Fourthly (and this probably deserves its' own thread or to be posted in an existing one) now begins the process of softening up my wife to be susceptible to my forth coming suggestions of taking money from the family budget and spending it on a new stick/hotas set up. Fingers crossed for a 3 way CH set up !!! (it will never happen.)

Glad someone else plays with alcohol in their system.I usually have a wee dram or a few glasses of red when playing, and god knows how many ups ive made while under the influence. Im currently using the t flight hotas x controller and for the price (i got mine for about £35) its an absolute steal. Keep flying and dont get disheartened.

My other half was delighted when I bought a HOTAS. Turns out nothing says, "honey, do what you want while I watch the kids," like spending £150 on a joystick.

Well tonight is the big ask, I was up for asking her last night when I was plied full of Dutch courage but, being on the tipsy side I managed to decrease my chances rather as increase them.

My wife loves watching Saturday night TV, she's not much of a drinker so usually she has a bar of chocolate or some sweets of various descriptions as her little weekend reward. Now I believe in fairness so as well as the kids having their Saturday night array of assorted sweet rubbish I make sure the cat has something nice too.
So I was sitting across from my wife sip sip sipping away at my vodka and feeding the cat his treats. Thinking it would be funny I threw some treats over onto my wife in order to amuse my simple self when the cat jumped on her. What happened was that the cat jumped on her at quite a pace which resulted in a full tub of jelly-beans exploding up into the air and landing on the floor to which the cat then proceeded to have a good sniff at.
She wasn't impressed, I thought it was hilarious and couldn't contain my mirth ! So, bang went the idea of suggesting a new HOTAS set up to her last night.

She's working a back shift today and won't be home until 8 pm, upon when she returns home she will find a lavishly prepared meal and a very complimentary husband with a hidden agenda.

If you flew sober, you'd notice how clunky and inaccurate it is, and how alarmingly the deadzone started growing as you wore it in ;)
