That's just not cricket.......

Elite Dangerous.

Trading away quietly in my Type 9.
Unsheilded for max capacity.
I have Guns n' Chaff.
Interdicted several times by smallish ships. Splat them.
Trade some more.
Interdicted by NPC Fed Gunship, with a full load of Res Seps on board.
He spilled my pint so I got all fiesty.
The worlds dumbest dogfight ended with him dead, my canopy popped and a grand total of 1% hull left (no exageration).
SC to station. 5 mins O2 left, no worries.
Line up, request docking. All good.
Phew, gonna make it. Take it easy, 1 'lil knock and its game over.
In the toaster rack nice and straight. All good. Nice and easy.
Dashboard makes sparks. Ship pops.
NPC Orca sails past like nothing just happened.
......................

A farty end to quite a nice lil ED story.

Bloody Orca's. I wasnt even going that slow, 80 - 90m/s.

And the moral of this story is, I had insurance.
Bit of a sickener tho.

I say, some dashed hooligan has put a big scratch on the port bow of my Orca. I also need to get the forward landing gear checked it made an awful crunching noise the last time I deployed it.

Ok, it wasn't me. I do fly an Orca though.

Sheild schmields.

I could have used my TradeConda but Im at 98% of my trade rank and 532t is tasty.
Usually not an issue, I don't mind the odd payment for hull repairs.

I wouldn't even mind the insurance/cargo costs as I had every opportunity to flee the fight.

But to lose it to some dumb AI pilot is a tad galling.

Just as likely to lose it to a dumb human pilot, to be fair. The AI actually tends to stay on the correct side of the letterbox these days. Which does imply that you didn't. ;)

Although I guess in mitigation, both the Orca and the Type-9 are big ships, so perhaps a collision was inevitable.

Not really. I've had an orca overtake me going through the letterbox flying directly above me, both on the same side (green), both docking.

Yeah, and probably touched you on the way through taking 2% of your hull which you didn't notice.

Not so unnoticable with 1% left though, hey?

I think that the AI Orca pilots in this game drive massive 4x4's (SUVs) in real life.
Just that same ignorant "I know where I'M going, get out of my way" attitude :-]

Not the first time I've been involved in a STC (space traffic collision) with one.
Come to think of it, most of my "extra" paintwork comes from bloody Orca's.

Hehe, yeah, keep in mind since V1.4 NPC Collision avoidance (that includes our own Docking Computer) has gone almost completely AWOL.

NPCs are currently completely oblivious to other Traffic and run on fixed tracks regardless of obstacles :D
(I absolutely hate that many NPCs around Stations are still running around unshielded - gotta be very careful not to bump into those and even more careful not to have them bump into you, which they happily do)

My personal favorite still remain the Station Patrol Fighers with a current survival time of less than 2 Minutes before half of them crashing anywhere into their own Station.
Coriolis Stations aren't too bad on them, large Orbis or Ocellus Starports usually make most of them them crash&pop before I even reach the gate :D ).
I think since V1.4 hit, I've witnessed thousands of them blowing up all over the Stations. I still can often hear them dangling helplessly even long after I've docked.

Luckily, the BGS doesn't count those lost Security Vessels - otherwise every System in the Galaxy would be in a permanent state of lockdown and/or civil unrest ;)

Currently, it would be good to have a dedicated default Paintjob for NPCs when it comes to collision avoidance :

I went to HazRes with my Python in PvE (2 Beams - 3 Multi).
about 45 mins. after i collected 3.5M - 4M (will be at least 6M with A.Lavigny Duval's rating 1)
Left no SCB and no Multi-Cannon's bullets
I saw last victims which was 3 Federal Gunship in a wing (FAS And FG deserve respect in PvE)
I just killed one of them and survived with %24 hull
Tried to run away from others under heavy fire...

In the dark, I hit the Asteroid with full speed; "the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe" Matrix :)

I lost my possible 6M and also 6M for insurance...

Haha I've done that one ! took on an npc wing in my clipper at a dark extraction site: shields down not gunna make it retreat. " yes I'm gunna escape ! Boost - bang strait into a pitch black asteroid practically no hull left and the wings caught up gg.

That's harsh, it's like one of those stories you hear about big ships just splatting little ships out of the way without thinking about it and they feel really smug about it.

Yeah, harsh.

Was minding my own business the other day loaded up the python made for the exit no rush steady 98 letterbox all lined up sweet, then as I pass through the toast rack, impact noises from the shields and accelerating above 100 with no input.

Taken from behind  by a bloody NPC without asking, total lack of manners!

I don't know about the AI's steering skills - but Orca as a combatant? I found out about its power earlier this week.

I was unfortunate enough to run into the...

This encounter changed my mind about Orcas.

And yes, I know I should be more prepared, configure fire groups, etc. But you get lazy after fighting rock-ramming, mindlessly spinning AI opponents day after day, you know? I seldom see CMDRs except in CGs. Not to mention wanted ones.

Grrrr I have been experiencing such things since 1.4 drop. I am no booster-flashed speed demon; being in a fat-bellied trade 'conda & after my first collision-caused bounty, I line her up nice and careful, slowly moving towards the slot. The AI definitely has had enough time to plot me in, yet SCREEEEEEEEEE and some AI is trying to either go above me, below me or off to the side.

ESPECIALLY &^#@!()& Orcas!

I want to petition FD to make a special-purpose weapon called "The Harpoon" which insta-kills only Orcas, fragmenting them into dust. It would be perfectly legal but only on Orcas.

&U_^*$%#@! Orcas!!!
