The 180° spin on undocking doesn't make sense on outposts (in space or planetside)

However, outposts and planetary settlements don't have a way "in" or "out", they are like helipads, you just land from above. So it doesn't make any kind of sense to spin you 180° in that case.

No you don't

You arrive facing the control tower for the landing bay

You leave facing away from the control tower for the landing bay

That way the controller sees you coming in and knows when you are clear when leaving

Simple really

Thank Zarqoun they don't tell the fuzz when you come in at breakneck speed with heat sinks popping like corn.

I'd like to add to that, the panels that move up & down to protect the station from the rear engine heat. For some reason they rise up again when you lower into the bay. No other ship can land there but it's up nonetheless. And when lifting up to the surface, one needs to wait until those panels drop again? Ugh... Keep 'em down! I've found the landing/take-off process takes me by the hand too much ! :)

These panels should be simply cut from the game, since they don't make any sense. Okay, they presumably deflect the emissions up and away when you land. But where the said emissions go when you take off, eh?

Never normally see it. As soon as I land I open up the station services, so all the spinning and stuff is going on in the background. Same as when I am due to take off, usually on the left hand panel or in the gal map.

Its pretty simple and obvious why it is how it is.

They made the landing and take off sequence for the cube port. Then the dev was asked to make animations/models for the same thing in outposts and then later asked again for ground platforms.
Their choice was either A. make new ones at the cost of time/budget or B. copy/paste.

If I had 20 other things on a list of dev tasks, I know which one I'd would pick too.

I always enter the hangar anyway, largely thanks to this mechanic.

When ready to go, I return to surface, then press F1 for Galaxy Map (custom bound).

Edit: the idea is when i'm done with selecting destination, I'm ready to fly.

I used to press 3 before 2.0 to looks at the landing menu and didn't need to close the services. I really wish we get a binding back for radar focus; it's way more useful than the SRV menu.

The answer is pretty simple, all landing pads are made by the same manufacturer and work the same way. Why would they make a special non spinning one for outposts and starports extra? It's a lot easier just to mass produce the same three types :p

Why did they standardise on a design with a missing fan blade?

Maths is not strong around rotationally symmetrical objects in the 34th century - the Galnet logo has 8 petals except in the news opening animation, where it has 7. Or vice versa, perhaps. I keep expecting to run into 3 or 5 sided Coriolis stations.
