Ships The 3 Smaller Federal Ships are way too close together in scale and builds:

The FAS, Dropship and Gunship are too similar in their present state.
These 3 amigos should be 3 quite different ships.

The size of the core slots are the same for bulkhead, plant, thrusters, and even FSD.
The LS, Distro, Sensors and tank, all the same.

If you add the core sizes together for each ship and give them the max optional slot for the shield ...
You get differences of 49 - FAS, 50 - Dropship and 52 for the Gunship currently.

What I propose is this:

Bump the differences to 50 55 and 62 by incrementing each core by one approximately. Make the sizes more obvious.
ie: Power Plant, Thrusters, FSD, sensors and fuel tank - FAS: 6, Dropship: 7 Gunship: 8 etc.

Give the Gunship a 7 slot for a shield.

Small quick assault zodiac - Medium orbit to surface boat - Large cruiser ?

Not 3 bros 6 months apart.[sour]

The Assault Ship and Gunship are effectively, by design, and in lore, the Dropship Mk II and Mk III. I don't think that's a bad thing.

Core Dynamics retooled the basic Dropship frame to specialize slightly more in different roles. They have mostly the same internals because they are, intentionally, mostly the same ships.

It's like saying an AC-130 isn't needed because we already have a basic C-130.

Though similar, the two planes work very, very differently.

It makes no sense that a gunship, almost identical in size to the other two, can somehow manage to have a bunch of class 8 core internals that only ships like vette or cutter can use. Besides theoretical spec comparisons are one thing - these 3 ships play very differently; FAS is for people who like maneuverability, gunship for those who prefer firepower over turning speed, and dropship for those tired of living :p In short you get a lumbering multi purpose, a dogfighter and a tank all playing diffetently to one another.
I see no problem there.
