The 3013 New Type 8

@devs: I am So glad I replaced my Python with the Type 8, super useful ship, but I very much hope that the 3013 Model Does something about those booms obstructing the pilots view. Function dictates form, and they may look industrial, but they serve no real function I am aware of except to obstruct the pilots view. I think a relatively minor redesign could really turn this from a B+ ship to an A+ ship.

I think the booms have a function. By putting thrusters that control rotation on them, the rotational axis of the ship is much closer to the cockpit, reducing g forces on the pilot during extreme maneuvering.

Or I guess reducing the need for inertial compensation to counter those g-forces, which allows for additional internal space for the expansion slots we have. ;)

(I understand the complaint though, although personally, I like 'em)

I don't think they obstruct the view badly enough to warrant removing them (^ I also quite like them). I wouldn't be in opposition to a variant that doesn't have them for those that find them objectionable, I don't think it very likely though.

The further away from the centre of mass that the ships' reaction wheels which adjust pitch, roll and yaw axis movements are placed the more effective they can be, so it makes sense, because that's where I would put them if I was designing a spaceship. Also, as someone else said it looks neat having weapons fire or mining lasers visable in front of your cockpit.

I just want the radiators moved so they aren’t visible from the cockpit.

I just went out in my T8 for the first time in months and while I was very aware of the booms being there it wasn’t a negative experience and soon became fully familiar again.

I like them. Similar to the Krait Mk2, just longer.
Now the "new" ship kit that puts an awning/cover between the two booms is a bit marmite. That really does obstruct your view.

What 3013 Model New Type 8?
Well this is a Suggestion thread Doc, so as we are in 3011, my thought was for the upcoming model year. Figuring IRL the Devs would need time to implement a Variant. But as the replies make clear, some folks like the booms. So I would not want them to lose the opportunity to buy the current model. Just as we have multiple Cobra Variants. That said, I would repeat otherwise I think its a great ship. I find the booms a bother when I'm going Dirt Side, but maybe that's just me.

Oh OK, for a moment I thought they've announced something and I missed it. :)

Since it's a Suggestion thread, I'd like a new Type 8 with double booms, another pair built above the old ones, so it will double the capacity.

I wasn't aware they'd released another kit. Looks nice from the outside, but definitely obstructive, think I'll stick with my Big Rig kit.

I hate anything that intrudes on forward vision and until the T8, Lakon had the best cockpit views of all the ships in the game.

But yeah recent designs have clearly put form over function, take the ridiculously obstructed lower angle view of the Corsair for example...

And what about the CobraMK5 popup light pack: I paid REAL MONEY for the ship kit with the pop up headlights, because the built in lighting of the MK5 is so bad (clever, CIGesque design choice? Maybe)
But those bloody front light extension things obstruct so much of the lower forward view and clash with the sleek lines of the cockpit design that I found them obnoxious after an hour and had to remove them... Since you can't get a refund on a ships kit I feel I have wasted thousands of ARX for nothing.

(I tried them again sober to see if it was just the Lagavulin 16y talking but alas: Obnoxious)...

Yeah, try flying in an asteroid field and trying to find the core asteroids, it's a pain.

LMAO, Double Capacity would be nice, but I'm thinking now we are in a Larger Design. A type 88 or something. Not unprecedented IRL, Dodge used to make a cute lil car called the Neon, after a few years they decided it needs to be about twice the size, which rather ruined all its charm.

Canopy kit bit aside, the wings of the newer kit fit nicely with the some of the big rig bits. My T-8s have a mish-mash of kit bits that work really well together.
