the 4th dimension

I regularly play Elite in VR using a HOTAS and headphones which has been blast, but today I just added 2 Dayton audio transducers to the underside of my office chair and discovered I've been missing the 4th dimension of Elite.

NOTE: For those who don't know, a transducer is a speaker that shakes whatever it is attached to (chairs/couches) allowing the audience to 'feel' the lower sounds.

Its incredible feeling the roar of my Krait's thrusters, the spin up of the warp drive, and the power of a rail gun's shot. After getting the feel for it, I landed so i could tryout the SRV. Landing in itself was impressive, feeling a thunderous tremor as I touched down in my 320 ton ship just felt satisfying. Seconds later I was zipping around in my space rover feeling every rock and pebble I ran over, with moments of stillness from the 'airtime' as I ramped over hills. After the tests I switched to my Viper MIII and realized just how insanely awesome the sound design is in Elite Dangerous. Boosting in a viper has a completely different 'feel' than the boost from the krait, the viper has a roar but it felt controlled, efficient, powerful. By comparison the Krait felt powerful for sure but also wild and probably missing a couple fail safes resulting in a much rougher ride. All of this is there in the sound design but having a transducer really pulls out some subtleties and adds another layer of immersion. Shout out if your setup has one!

I live in an apartment building and mine rattles the windows quite often, makes me feel very badly for my neighbors.

And I totally agree that it really shines when you fly a variety of ships, the team that did sound for this game did an exceptional job.

I adjust my subwoofer down late at night because the LFE channel of this game is so amazingly wonderful. Headphone use is dull compared to a 5.1 surround system and no doubt pucks (or buttkicker) fitted to the chair could be even more "stimulating". ;)

Currently my ED setup is on the low side of the spectrum; I play on a laptop with an XBox controller.

I have aspirations of doing a real setup at some point though, with VR, etc. Your setup sounds pretty sweet, OP, I'll have to give transducers a try sometime down the line.
