The abandon button in the sabotage missions should not abandon their target mission.

I got contacted while trying to do a mission and the interested party gave me an offer to abandon the other mission and get a little bit more credits than what I would have been paid. The offer wasn't good enough and I decided to complete my original mission. Upon making this decision I tried to abandon the new sabotage mission I was given.

I checked to make sure that the 'ABANDON' button presented to me wasn't the equivalent of a "Complete mission" button, by going to the mission it was asking me to abandon. I saw an 'ABANDON' button on that mission too, so I came to the conclusion that the abandon button was actually a button to abandon the mission I had selected (since my other mission was regarding delivering some cargo).

What happened was that me clicking 'abandon' on the sabotage mission ended up abandoning the mission it was asking me to drop, rather than the sabotage mission like I expected. The ambiguity should probably be cleared up because this wasn't consistent behavior. Additionally, as far as I can tell there's no way to abandon the sabotage mission?

I'm a bit confused by that mechanic as well. If my mission is to kill pirates, I will inevitably run into an NPC with another offer and my current mission data (turn in location) will be lost if I forget to write it down on paper. Can still do the mission as intended, though.

Are the original missions active if you get the offer to abandon the original mission? In my case I had to kill pirates, but they offered me mission to kill authorities. In the mission log the only active mission was the kill authority mission wich i wan't to do, so I quiet this misssion.
Due to the fact that the bandits where "clean" there was nothing to do....

I have had the same problem. I was near the end of a 'kill X pirates' mission and I got the alternative mission message. I can't find any way to recover my old mission and I did not bother writing down where it came from.

NPCs that offer you alternative missions do NOT give you separate missions. It's simply an addition to the mission, an alternative ending. There's only ONE mission, which is WHY you only see ONE MISSION ENTRY in your mission log, NOT TWO.

If you abandoned it, then you abandoned the ONE MISSION with two ending options. How is this confusing? Clearly, there's only one mission and abandoning the mission doesn't abandon only half the mission. How did you come to the conclusion that it would abandon half the mission???

It is confusing. Even GerminVermin's explanation as to why it isn't confusing is kind of confusing.

It would be nice if missions could show submissions and they could be abandoned separately from the main mission. I hope they intend to add even more complex missions which would make separating the submissions even more important.

It's not confusing at all. There's one single mission with 2 optional objectives. You click abandon, it abandon's the mission. This is NOT hard, people.

Missions with counter-offers are currently bugged:
- mission counter is reset after you receive the counter-offer,
- sometimes it works like you automatically accepted the counter-offer and you cannot complete the original mission even if you want to.

It is totally confusing.

However, since I do missions mainly to raise rep with a faction, there is no way I am going to betray this faction I am trying to raise my rep with for a measly 10% bonus. So these encounters are really getting on my nerves.

So my suggestion would be to have to option to refuse the new deal, and instead kill the ship wanting me to betray, for an additional bonus rep for the faction of the original mission...

That is exactly what I have been getting. The original mission seems to be unavoidably replaced with the counter offer.

Hopefully they will rework the presentation of missions and alt. missions. This is obviously confusing a number of people.

This is part of my argument. It's only confusing if you give it a half-second look and then stop paying attention to it and immediately run to the forums to complain about it.

If people would stop whining and actually take a moment to read everything that's presented on that mission page on the transactions tab, they would very clearly see exactly the information they need to answer their questions. This is only confusing to people who don't bother paying attention.

Here, I'll post an image I posted in another thread JUST LIKE THIS ONE where someone's complaining about the abandon mission button.

In this image, we can see that, on ONE MISSION SCREEN, there's all the data for the old mission along with all the data for the alternate mission ending. All of it has ONE abandon button.

Thats pretty and all, but I dont get that. My lower half goes away and I just have the "new" alternative mission. My count disappears and so does everything BUT where my "new" mission takes me.

See this isn't the kind of mission I got. I had two missions, one mission had my original goal (kill pirates probably?) and then I got a second mission titled 'SABOTAGE'. The SABOTAGE mission was not to kill another type of ship, but to abandon my original mission altogether. If I abandoned it, I could then turn in the SABOTAGE mission to get that reward.

The problem is that both missions had an 'abandon' button on them, yet the one on the 'sabotage' mission didn't abandon the sabotage mission, it abandoned the one it needed me to cancel for its own goals.

Germin you are wrong. There is a problem with those ignorant "lets change the mission goals midway thru the mission" missions. I have a ticket open with FD currently. They are aware and acknowledge a problem with some of "those" missons. They are working on a resolution and a way to get it out of my transactions screen. I CANNOT complete the original mission. The second the other "option" for a second mission appeared, I was not able to complete the original mission despite trying for hours and hours. I cannot get rid of the mission. The only thing the abandon mission button did for me was to give me negative rep with The Pilot's Federation & The Federation. I am still waiting for them to inform me how they are either going to fix the mission, remove it from my transaction list or make it so I can get out of my list somehow. So no, I am not "whining", there is a acknowledged problem and they are working on a fix. But thanks for your opinion.

It does need some better wording when you get offered an alternate mission.
I accepted a "deliver 2 slaves" mission, then 10 minutes later ran into a NPC saying "hey, that's not cool you know" etc etc, offered me 1000CR more, but in the wording of the offer it said "to abandon"...
So you can guess what I clicked..
Not amused when it was going to get me 40/50K at an early stage in my game

It's hardly surprising there are bugs though, considering how much complexity and depth is built into the ED mission design system. I mean, it's not like the whole thing has the feel of something designed on the back of a napkin during a boozy Friday lunch hour down the pub and subsequently knocked out before everyone finished for the day.

Honestly, is there a part of this game that works, let alone works the way FD said it would?
