The absurdity of occupied escape pods having a market value

A long time ago when all occupied escape pods were illegal salvage (absurd also), I suggested that they should have a random value based on how much relatives were offering for a reward. There's so much RNG in this game why not. Escape pods should bring anywhere from 200 CR to 2 million CR and you shouldn't know how much until you take it to a station and unfreeze the person (or maybe even pet) inside.

Now that escape pods are not always illegal salvage I find that there is a market rate for occupied escape pods.

How absurd!

How insulting that all occupied escape pods go for less than slaves!

PS: Now I do think it would be comical if pets from an escape pod were more valuable than people!

The commodities need to be extracted from the pod, washed, rinsed, decontaminated, washed, rinsed, rinsed, washed and washed again to be on par with the average slave. Too much work, hence the lower value.

Sold as is.

Very nice! Hadn't seen this yet. I'm excited about that!

I always thought escape pods should provide a higher payout than slaves/painite or whatever, as when I was SRVimng for skimmers finding a cache of escape pods and platinum always meant I would tajke the platinum and leave the pods (cos I am a heartless personage).

They need to do more with escape pods in general. Having them in the game as just another random "thing" you can pick up is pretty dumb all around. They could be starting points for entire procedurally generated storylines and branching missions and whatnot. In fact the whole "receiving missions in space/outside of the mission board" feature was supposed to provide this, but it never happened for some reason. I think if Frontier isn't ready to do anything with them right now they should just take escape pods out of the game in the meantime. I'm curious to see what happens in update 2.4 but I kind of suspect it will be more or less the same thing where every pod is generic and interchangeable and you turn them in for a fixed amount of credits; just at a different menu on the station services board. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Protein is a precious commodity in space. Just think of all the delicious things you could make in your space station with a fresh cargo of longpig.

Fairly sure you'll be right...

Useless space junk not worth the credits to justify a range sucking cargo rack for...cant even wake them up in the vaccuum of space which would be so funny ^

Occupied doesn't mean alive. Organ harvesting doesn't pay great.

I'm just happy our escape pods come with a super duper FSD that can warp us across the entire galaxy to our last station instantly. In light of the time sink the community pressured FD into implementing to add to the cost of moving ships and modules, I'm surprised we didn't also get a month long "cool down" period after an ejection! :)

So much more could be done with escape pods, from variable rewards based on who you sell it to to the beginnings of mission sequences to crew additions. I guess FDev is happy with us selling the organs for harvesting. As usual, great unrealized potential.
