Hello everyone,

I'm new here but played ED for around 2 years, and watched the live steam yesterday and it got me wondering about having the new voices instead of text might get a bit repetative on my ears after a while.

Does anyone know if we can turn the voices off, but keep the station voices on?

Thanks all
Doobie.

For the scenario actors they might add a slider in the audio options but you wont be able to confirm that until at least the beta releases.

Fingers crossed then

Many thanks, i hope they do because i can see the voices repeating the same stuff annoying me, the text option I prefer.

Also the station voices don't bother me as I don't only go a couple of times per session.

Have they got rid of the text speech altogether or can we still see it?

Cheers
Doobie

Was the 'please feed me' lady the same one that voices the training missions? Because I think I'd be more likely to melt her ship than help her.

Look, it's personal, ok?

A LOT of people have asked for more immersive features like this. I get what you mean (and it was my immediate thought) and I'll probably tune it out after a while AND I imagine they have a setting for this. Because. They have a setting for everything.

It's much requested (voice acting) and it's been added in layers (corrected that from lairs, though I imagine voice actors do have to work in a sort of lair). If it's done subtley, fine. If it's obnoxious, it'll get real annoying real fast. Like everything, we'll see how it plays out (I already like there are several variations of the same scenario).

I'm loving it myself. The voice acting has always been one of my favourite bits of elite. The training missions, the "recently" added traffic controllers, and to an extent the ship and other logs. This makes it much more dynamic and relevant, which for me is a winner

Also I might start the BGS now......where/how do I get involved?

Fly around your favourite systems and check out the minor factions there. If you see one you like then go to

https://inara.cz/galaxy-minorfactions/

to see if anyone else is looking out for it.

You could also always pick a major faction; Federation, Empire, or Alliance... and push any wars you see in the direction you favour.

Or there's the more ambitious approach where you start a group of your own and ask Frontier Developments to add your own named faction to the galaxy.

Edit - - - - - - - -

Last but not least you could always post a comment about your interest in the BGS and watch the Vultures descend as they tell you what a wonderful life it is in their group... much like the wonderful life in the ARC <winning smile>

The ARC is part of Fighter Club, and can be found in my signature

I understand where OP is coming from, but I guess we won't know until at least Beta. But an option to "turn off voices" may also prevent us hearing traffic control and background chatter in CZs which, I suspect, is not such a good idea.

So to have the option, we would need layers of voice control to turn off, which may not be easy for FD to provide.

Easy to fix... Don't bother with USSs...;)

I was also worried about the voice comms becoming repetitive, but then again, the missions themselves can become repetitive if overdone. Encountering NPCs who ran out of food or fuel should be a rare event, not something that happens every single day. I can't remember the last time I had to stop and help someone broken down on the highway.

So hopefully if we only encounter these "NPCs in need" once per every week or two, there will be enough variety in the comms to keep it feeling fresh. However, if I actually have to listen to someone speaking "I'm going to boil you up!" or "You scratched my paint!" every time I engage in combat, well then I might side with the OP!

I don't mind that actually, playing Warframe a lot lately and Ordis (your on board ship companion) is always making bad "jokes", puns, and stuff like that, there is a point where you are so used to the repetition that you paid no attention to what he says actually. Same with Lotus which is always telling you "There are missions available Tenno" like every 5 minutes or so.

Repetitive or not it still gives you some sense of being in that ship, in that place...Way better than having a chat telling you things that most of the time you miss because of actually doing other things.

Remember when they added radio voice communication to the Stations? "Greetings CMDR Foxtrot Oscar X-Ray...", for me that added a lot and you hear that on and on, and never gets old.

Like most things, I suspect you'll be able to turn the voice acting down/off.

It would be rather inconsiderate of deaf or hard-of-hearing players if they removed the text speech, so that's definitely still in.

They specifically said that they had multiple people voice the same scenarios. So for example it won't always be the same woman running out of fuel. Not sure what else there is to ask for.
