Parks The American Adventure Theme Park

Hi All,

One of my earliest theme park memories as a child was of The American Adventure Theme Park. It sadly closed in 2007 but though the powers of Planet Coaster it will open its doors once more!

It won't be a 100% accurate recreation of the park but it will certainly be recognisable to anyone familiar with it. For example I've gone for a desert terrain rather than English countryside.

I've already made a start, my plan of attack is as follows:

  1. Quick terrain sculpt and path layout to work out rough park proportions
  2. Create the key rides minus any queues and decoration to see if the distances work out
  3. Make any major alterations to ride positions and terrain that are required
  4. Layout shop and facility buildings
  5. First pass on ride queues and ride scenery
  6. First pass on general park scenery
  7. Second scenery pass and other tweaks

I've no idea how long it will take me but I aim to make steady progress when possible. I would really love to hear your stories of the park or cool ideas for what I could do. with the project :)

Some progress!

So I made some more headway today, I've now laid out all the big rides so I can be sure they fit around the lake ok. Luckily they do although I had to alter their positions slightly from the real world.

I've recreated the ride layouts pretty accurately using old photographs, however I also have to take in consideration how the in-game coasters work, for example I had to put in a chain lift and a drop on Runaway Train to actually get the train around the track. [rolleyes] This then throws the layout out slightly so I've just had to go with it and adapt accordingly.

I also spent some time sculpting the terrain around the log flume and mine train. [big grin]

Cool, I look forward to seeing more. It isn't a park I have been to but it is always sad when old parks close, so lovely to be able to revisit memories. :coaster1:

Been making some progress this week on the log flume and rapids rides.

I've now finished the basic shape of Fort St Lawrence, which is the entrance and exit point for the Rocky Mountain Rapids, and will also house the Balloon Ride. I've also made a start on ride decoration and building the rapids station building.

Thanks. I've been spending some time on Fort St Lawrence over the last couple days. It's a natural place to put in toilets. first aid, and some shops.

I've also finished dressing the Balloon Ride which occupies one corner of the fort. Post will be reaching all parts of the frontier in record time!

Finally I've been working on the queue for the rapids ride. Mostly done now, just need to finish decorating the rapids station and the last part of the actual ride.

So progress has been a little slow recently but I've been working on Spaceport USA which features The Missile and Black Hole.

Black Hole was quite tricky to build. I tried a couple different methods, in the end I sunk the ride into the terrain, built an room around it, then covered the room with earth, and then built an outer building skin on top of that. It was the only way I could work out to make the ride as dark as I wanted. I then plastered the inner walls with the star field scenery item. Overall I'm pleased with the result. [big grin]

Next up was decorating The Missile. I couldn't decide what to do here for a while as the coaster station in real life was very boring, so I didn't have any inspiring reference material to draw from. In the end I built a multi-level coaster station (top floor inaccessible). I may come back and revisit this at a later date but it will do for now...

Next job is to do the Go Karts and then decorate the Spaceport USA zone with shops, facilities and general scenery.

I live in Nott'm and I also loved this park

Just seeing the missile again brought a smile to my face! Great job.

I believe the missile is in another country now like Denmark or something
