The April Fools Day Massacre - A simple PvP idea

Is anyone interested in taking part in a one day (maybe even annual?) free for all on April Fool's Day ?

Thinking off the top of my head it would be extremely simple:

  • It takes part in an Anarchy system of an appointed choice so no crimes/ bounties are collected against players (unless you have one already lol)
  • Advance notice is given so everyone has time to get there
  • The system has at least one station or a nearby neighbour in jump distance for a shipyard
  • You have to play in Open
  • You are only allowed to bring a stock Sidewinder. Absolutely no modifications are allowed or other ships.
  • Its purely for PvP
  • if destroyed you're allowed to come back as many times as you like but only in the stock Sidewinder
  • It takes place for a defined period of time (or even the entire day for all timezones to take part
  • No text comms (distraction) but would be cool to initiate voice comms on a large scale (Teamspeak?) and get this on a video
  • Would FD help for marketing and promo ? Or even camp with an Anaconda to make sure the rules were obeyed ? (ie some idiot turns up in one to spoil the fun)

Trying to keep the idea simple. Massive free for all, minimal cost, much action. And it's all player skill based, not weapons based.

Who'd be up for this ?

You don't die lol I just see it as a mass event, not a competition but just a huge release and shipwreck for people who want to do PvP, or even those who've never tried it. The "Sidewinder Only" piece is to level it off so its down to the pilot not the amount of money you've spent on a ship. Just for kicks, nothing more. You can fight once or as many times as you want, plus I'd think it would count towards your own kill count and help you learn combat skills too.

I'd hope much like the Destruction Derby people wouldn't see the need to cheat because it's just a bit of fun and not a competition. I agree though which is why I wondered whether FD would get involved, whether from a technical standpoint (can't enter the instances or system with anything other than stock Sidey) or the fact it becomes a publicly known event and you turn up with your Viper and are shamed....

Yes, I like this idea. Stock Sidewinder makes it all about combat and flight skills too not about what you can afford as a load out.

Yes, count me in.

Agreed - the ideas are very similar! Get registered on http://www.unbound.space and bring along anyone that's interested in this. We've already got some interested people registered over there, and it's set up for people to start and promote their own events :).

Planning a event where lots of people are excepted to show up with unmodified Sidewinders, there's no way someone isn't going to be a jerk and bring something better suited for combat just to see how many Sidewinders they can take out.

Planning a regular combat event is good, but saying sidewinders only would be nice, IF you could enforce it.

Enough of cats! I'm game for this, and stock Sideys is definitely the way to go - if someone wants to try for the spoil/cheat whatever so be it - I'm sure we can all have enough fun in the trying. Plus not managed to get into PvP just yet

Ah I wasn't aware of this one (too busy moaning previously it seems). Similar style, mine is less structured and dog-eat-dog or Sidey-eat-Sidey and restricted on purpose so everyone can turn up with minimal cost. I'll take a look though, it's good we can do these things with Elite :)

Thats what I thought, if someone showed up in anything but a Sidey it would be an open 31-1 PvP and I'm sure all would be game for that !

These are the things that make me like this game. Players making fun for other players. And yes, waaay better than cat pictures.

FD needs to keep pushing elements that players can use to create, or even just to know about, even more of these fun kinds of events. They definitely notice it; it's awesome to see player-driven things on Galnet. That interactivity can only be expanded upon to the benefit of us all.

On behalf of The Unbound and Backbreaker, it's great to see more event ideas happening. When we start on more free-form events you should come on by!

I see no reason not to let you guys run with this, you've got an existing set up already, it could just be another style of event under your banner. Not precious, I'd like to see it happen no matter what.
