On Jan 30th, 2015, 3 team of pilots congregated in the Orcus system to fight it out amongst the rings of Orcus 2. Their goal was to playtest the formula for the Backbreaker games, a player-led gladiatorial event in Elite: Dangerous.
Three teams of three players, each flying a heavily customized sidewinder, fighting for your viewing pleasure in brutal combat. With a criminally loose set of regulations and the best equipment they could squeeze onto their ships they flew into the rock-strewn battlefield to face their fate.
This was a test-event. The idea was to see what worked, what needed tweaking and if this could be turned into a bigger, more regular event. It went well, and the lessons learned were encouraging.
So without further ado, here is a proof-of-concept video of round 1.
