Thargoids return every 11 years to harvest the barnacles.
There is one system which is linked to this cycle.
It is the life cycle of our sun. The spot cycle in the sun orders the barnacles to behave as they do. It is a clock for their life cycle.
The barnacles are genetically engineered, but they follow one single start in the galaxy due their coded biological clock. Every 11 years the barnacles are ready to be harvested. So, the very first barnacle was taken from Earth and bio-engineered to another purpose. Therefore, Thargoids have visited our planet far before our species were evolved.
Since we have attacked the barnacles, the Thargoids might come for Earth to harvest the original barnacle species in order to restore their seed banks. Yet, we know the Thargoids eat humans as well. They aren't vegetarians.
If we could have barnacles collected from our sea and brough to Thargoids... I wonder how they would behave...
But for a reason they don't come towards Sol for no reason at all.
