The Bear Necessities; Or, What Should The Final Bear Be?

I'd absolutely love to have all three. I feel like that should've been one of Frontier's goals from out of the gate, to hit all 8 bear species. Each additional one we get at this point will make the omission of the rest that much more painful. I've gone back and forth as to which one I'd prefer if we only get one, though. Sloth is the most visually unique, spectacled is from the most underrepresented region, and American black is the one I'd personally use the most. As of right now, I'd give the spectacled bear the nod because South America is somehow still that underrepresented. But ask me again in a week, or especially in three months, and who knows what I'd say.

Would happily take all four mentioned in this order, they are some of the most fun to watch in game.

Andean (Spectacled) Bear - always the first animal I see every time I've visited my local zoo (many many years) so they are essential to me
Eurasian Brown Bear - we need our own bear
Sloth Bear - very unique especially with their fluffy coat
American Black Bear - just falls down the pecking order.
Teddy Bear - to sell via a Cuddly Toy / Plushie souvenir counter not yet in game.

I'll gladly take all of these bears..aand the Teddy bear as an exhibit animal 🧸

American Black Bear, baby. I'm not very objective though. It's just my favorite bear species so I would obviously really like to see them included in the game. They should have been in the base game instead of the HBB...

The spectacled bear would be my second choice.

I'd go with the American Black Bear, and it should include both the albino, Cinnamon, and Kermode with it.

The Kermode/Spirit Bears are the rarest in zoos if I remember right, with only one of them on display in a zoo.

This is how I feel about the Eurasian brown bear. I'm glad we didn't get a second North American bear in the base game, though.
My feeling is... if we needed another bear, why not the Sloth or Spectacled bears? If we needed a reskin, why not the ABB, so that we had another species represented? And if we needed a grizzly reskin, why not the more commonly-kept (in Europe) EBB?

It wasn't about need; the whole base game roster is buffed out by reskins.

Aldabra giant tortoise, Siberian tiger, Himalayan brown bear, Komodo dragon, Thomson's gazelle. They did it to push their "over 100 animals" line.

All of those other than the Himalayan brown bear use unique models, and at the very least the dragon is unique enough to justify its inclusion IMO. But yeah, the base roster was pretty padded-out.

Not really - some minor adjustments here and there but otherwise the same model. Especially the tigers. All are about as unique as the Arctic wolf. The gazelle is probably the most unique of the bunch, rather than the dragon.
I don't mean to sound argumentative, but I don't totally see it. Same rig? Sure, maybe. But the head, tail, and proportions are all pretty different. Ultimately though, my point wasn't that the dragon looked more unique -- just that, unlike the Himalayan Brown Bear, and perhaps moreso than any other of the animals listed, it added an iconic zoo animal which, to me, the game would feel incomplete without. I could imagine a zoo game without a second tiger, tortoise, or a gazelle (but I'm glad we got all of those picks, as they ARE realistic alternate picks which add that bit of biodiversity without much effort), but I think one without one of the most well-known lizards in the world (and one of the more well-kept in zoos) might feel a bit lacking.

There's no real argument - the point I was making that they didn't add these animals because they wanted a diverse roster, they added them because they were easy filler species to buff out the roster in general.

Oh, undoubtedly. But if we were going to get filler picks, I think most of them are pretty good. I do wish we got a few clones/clone-ish animals to buff the New World/Oceania roster -- emus, american black bears and caribbean flamingos.

Going mainly on looks here but I'm voting for Andean Bear. The fact it would boost the SA representation is a bonus. Perhaps it could be added to a Mountain themed pack? The sloth bear is adorable too and looks distinct

American black bear just isn't that exciting to me. The Andean and Sloth look more unique and maybe because I'm not American I don't have the same connection with it.
