Ships The best small ship obviously is . . .

Now Python is definitely not a small ship. xD

It isn't the best in combat, that is the Vulture. It isn't the best in exploration, that is is the DBX.

Yeah ofc for a qualified answer the question should be "best for what?" :)

If we can't narrow it down, that means we're looking for the best small multi-role, and to that I'm inclined to answer Cobra Mk III. ^^

Sorry, I thought wrongly that Cobra 4 was average too.
But in any case, the Cobra 4 can not be recommended as the best since there are people who can not afford it.

I can understand using a medium ship because of the outposts
But I wonder what the point of the small size is.

Good points, the Cobra IV being ‘best’ would be a little harsh but as it is it’s just ‘different’ I think, judging by the conflicted opinions on it.

And small multi-role I agree I find awkward. If I absolutely need a little cargo space I’ll take my Keelback, I couldn’t justify the tiny hold I’d have in the Adder for the loss of another MRP.

But for dogfighting, WOW! Even if I’m not that good at utilising it yet the speed and the agility are peerless in my small fleet, and I’m forced into getting valuable practice! And fun :D

Well keep in mind that the ship assortment comes from a time when credits didn't just roll in by the millions just for successfully hitting the autodock button. ;) Also the NPC universe seems to still operate in the "classic economy" where the average mission pays 10k before expenses and 6 canisters of gold are reason enough to commit a capital crime for.

So in that classic economy, small ships and even small multiroles are eligible choices - simply bc you can't afford multiple and/or bigger ships.

Dolphin can't fight. Dolphin is too friendly.

What's wrong with friendly? Space is a hostile place, but commanders don't have to be.
Anyway, my second account has been taken over by my daughter and she loves to fly the Dolphin.
Just brought back a famous explorer, about 1.500 ly trip.

The happy explorer.

But the big bounty is the exploration data. There's another page just like this.

The Dolphin back in white delivery van colors.

Dolpin mining.jpg

Who said the Dolphin is a lousy miner? It just mined a lot of silver from a nearby station.

Anyway, the kid is flush with cash, about 300 MCr and is looking to equip her first fighter.
Any suggestions? We only have access to Elvira and Felicity at the moment.
The Viper Mk III is an obvious choice, but I was thinking Vulture.

Newbro here, but really looking forward to engineering the power plant in my Vulture. Thing's a beast, if only it had more power. Feels like a ship you can grow into for sure

Thanks for the tip. Felicity has a lvl 1 upgrade to the PP. Shouldn't be too hard. Would you share your build?

Objectively the cobra mk3 is the right answer as it is the best multirole small ship. Subjectively any of them is the right answer.
Technically, you're right. But would you ever pick a fight in the Cobra Mk III? I wouldn't, it just isn't a match for a dedicated fighter.
And if you don't fight, the Dolphin is the better ship.
I love the car.... I mean the Dolphie :p ... in fact, I love BOTH !
;)

I do pick fights in the cobra 3 for sure. I may be cautious about what I fight but 3 thermal vent efficient beams and a pack hound usually see me through
