The beta 1 verdict!

After a steller jump into premium beta (of which i cherished :p) E:D pb after a while started to feel to repetitive. THANK GOD THIS IS NOT THE CASE WITH STANDARD BETA 1!!! Great job to FD as they have really put so much effort and passion into this game. the game no longer feels stagnant after to long a sesh in space but feels fresh and exciting at every turn (or crash ;)) if you havnt tried it yet NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY E:D! :D

So far beta 1 feels quite solid. I'm getting a few crashes, but I'm sure they will sort those out soon. So far so good :)

Made my first trade run in vegtables

Made 500 credits. I'm rich I tell you, rich!

FPS - massive improvements for me
Stability - major improvement
Overall look - Unbelievable improvement (even with my rubbish graphics card).

My new computer arrives in a couple of weeks. Can't wait now.

Frontier have done very well. Meeting every wish list.
Only disappointment is that I was hoping to see system maps in this release.

Not able to play it currently since the cpu on my gaming machine went belly up a couple of days ago. Expecting a replacement hopefully some time today or tomorrow. Enjoying watching streams on twitch though.

it's nice when it is working.

a huge amount of graphical improvements on top of the new features such as the start of missions, new commodites, fuel, new systems, and you need to plot through your course via established hyperdrive links (in the sidewinder anyways) as well as law and order and a large amount of police about.

Haven't got my hands on a docking computer but should get one when I get my hauler (now cheaper at 24k creds as well) as well as new playable ships.

so far lots to get to grips with, good job I went with PB otherwise I may have been a little bit overwhealmed today.

the only downside is that in the ALL group I am seeing a lot of the problems in early PB with CTD's (I assume with people alt+TAB) and missing stations etc, no such problems in online solo so looks like matchmaking still needs work with the new players.

My 3D Monitor blew up this morning, so no chance of playing the B1, ordered a new one, but 2 days delivery. Suspense is killing :(

I am currently trying to supercruise between two stars, I'll probably still be doing it when you get online :)

Cool idea! How did it turn out.

I was thinking supercruising at 30c would still take 2 months to get from Earth to Alpha Centauri. I suppose if you found stars substantially closer, that could cut down on the travel time. The question is, does the game model the stars this way? I'd assume each star system is its own "level."

My purpose was to get close enough to my destination that I could use hyperspace. I found & ticketed what appears to be a bug where the displayed range to the destination star wasn't counting down while I was in supercruise. However it turned out that the underlying system was correctly tracking range as I was eventually able to make the jump (very shortly after the previous post on the thread as it happens :) )

I had reached a speed in the region of 1900c and was still slowly accelerating by the time I jumped, travel time would presumably have been less than 29 hours if I'd continued to supercruise all the way.

Wow, that is pretty awesome that you can supercruise closer to a destination and then jump. Opens up some interesting possibilities.

Curious, how long did you have to fly in supercruise before you could make the jump?

Good question. I wasn't timing it and didn't make a note of when I started, but I would guess about an hour, no more than two. I think I was over 0.2 LY from my start point when I was able to jump. Also, when I got to my destination, I was down to about 20-25% fuel remaining.

I logged on last night teeming with excitement. Ship plops in front of chango dock. I power up my drives. First thing I notice is people are everywhere!!! Very crowded station indeed. So many new places to explore as soon as I actually get an ship capable of making the jump! The new sounds are amazing. The small tweaks they have made like the way the ship landing pads on the stations move really make the immersion so much better. I can't wait to get back online tonight! I need to do a search on the forum and see if the groups are starting up already. I'd like to get some use out of comm chat via voice when I do hails!

I have noticed that for the long range hauling missions it is up to you to work out if you can haul it.

I picked up one mission only to find out my hauler hasn't got enough fuel capacity to actually get there for one of the hyperspace jumps and so I am unable to do it.

So now I shall get a fine for missing the deadline later tonight, so check before accepting.
