Are they big enough ?
Are they bad enough ?

This youtube video shows me in a Cobra Mk III starting out with no shields and 50% hull going up against a fully shielded 'conda

Ok I did get some help from the feds, but one thing that is obvious to me watching through the footage is that the Anaconda just isn't as big as you expect, FAR too fast and manoevrable, and lacking firepower....

Its nothing like the Anaconda as described in various Elite lore and fiction.....

Anacondas in Lore are usually militarised versions.

but, no the anaconda isn't the beast it should be when fully mil up

Well the AI is not... optimal right now. I don't have much experience fighting player Anacondas, but from what I've seen, they can be quite deadly. With shield cells: practically invulnerable until they run out.
Since they're so heavy, they can also quickly Sc away from most things.

Also, I think there was a Youtube video of someone defeating an Elite Anaconda in their Sidewinder, without loosing shields...

My point is not that they aren't badass they damn well should be, but they should be slow lumbering beasts, the ones that I have come up against have been quite fast and maneuverable they also appear to be too small for a ship that has a crew of hundreds (not sure how many exactly, but i'm sure I read it somewhere and it was in the hundreds)

I'm sure that you could take one out in a sidey, i've come close in an Eagle, but it would take ages to wear it down.

View an Anaconda through the Rift and you will appreciate the size, in fact view an Eagle in the rift and you will be shocked, the Eagle is as big as a single aisle airliner, so you can imagine what the Conda and T9 looks like. My Clipper looks like a cruise liner in the Rift.

I agree about the turn rates, the devs had to give into the arcade crowd, that's one of the reasons why I haven't bought a Conda. A few people have said it feels fairly heavy when flying it. for me the T9 is the only ship that behaves like it weights 2000T

Btw, Anaconda crew compliment is around 30

I don't think the Anaconda was ever meant to be a 'huge' ship, certainly not one with a crew of hundreds.

Frontier Elite 2 / FFE crew size is eight. Classic has more, but they are double figures at most.

Physically, the ship is roughly the size of four Cobras.

Compared to a Farrugut, they're tiny.

Yeah it's definitely not supposed to have a crew of hundreds. It is still a huge ship compared to most. The thing is gigantic when viewed in the DK2. The Imperial Majestic of course is on a whole other level, but that would have a crew of thousands.

Far larger than 4 Cobra's. Unfortuntely when viewing this game on a monitor size does not translate well.

Perhaps its just my imagination running away with me as a kid...

I remember reading the dark wheel novel that came with the game and near the end Alex is battling an anaconda and the description left me thinking that they where much bigger, perhaps something around half the size of the farrugut pictured above was in my mind...

Still I suppose that as long as we do soon get some really huge ships to go against, I like the idea of strafing along the belly of a giant ship.
