The Biggest Failure of Planet Coaster.

I've been lost from the moment the thread started.

But as I see it. The OP thinks the game is great, but doesn't like the way background music is done in PC.

I don't care really. I think audiowise PC is the best there is. That's why I only respond to your comment, as Breezer and Drivetheory have started their own little war, and I don't want to be part of that, just because I think it's all a bit overdone.

Drivetheory can give is opinion of course, but I think people read his message the wrong way. His opinion is not as negative as people make it sound.

You sir are 100% correct. Planet Coaster is a great game, the best theme park / coaster sim style game there has ever been to date. That's why the missing background music feature is such a travesty.

Does Planet Coaster have a great soundtrack? Honestly I have no idea, I've barely heard enough of it to form any type of opinion despite having spent so much time in game...

I personally like the music in PC better than in RCT3 and earlier. However, I would not be against pumpjng my own mp3 music list through the speakers.

if you're on Windows, open explorer, in the address bar put in the following:
Code:
%userprofile%\Documents\Frontier Developments\Planet Coaster\UserMusic
that's where you can add your own music to the game [up]

In my experience, the (ambient) music also plays during regular gameplay, when the simulation is unpaused and/or the camera is fully zoomed in. To me It seems that the game is trying to be smart and determines when the game world is relatively quiet (not enough guest to generate crowd noise, no rides with sound effects and music nearby). Then it mixes an ambient track with the appropriate intensity to fill up the silence. But as with most systems in the game, the algorithm is malfunctioning due to a rushed or incomplete implementation.

In my case, I never had this.

Its not illegal to have a back up of something you purchased, which Im sure most of the people here have, plus rct3 gives you the mp3s in your documents. But I still don't see what is wrong with playing the soundtrack through youtube? Theres no reason to say you dont know if the background music is good when you can play it from your phone anywhere anytime lol

No clue what that statement is supposed to mean or how it's relevant.

This thread isn't explicitly about the music from RCT3, it's about the feature Frontier created in RCT3 that played the music in the background while you played the game, thus allowing you to actually experience the music in RCT3 in a prominent way the majority of your time while in-game, with the option to disable this feature if you didn't like it.

The entire Planet Coaster album, "You, Me & Gravity" is available to listen to from the official Planet Coaster channel on youtube yet you decide to link to music that has been illegally uploaded...

In and of itself, there's nothing wrong with listening to the music on Planet Coaster's official youtube channel.

Did you ever stop to consider...
Maybe some people don't have a smart phone?
Or maybe they do have a smart phone but used up all their data plan and don't have a wireless router to connect their smart phone to?
Or perhaps maybe their computer isn't capable of running Planet Coaster and playing videos on youtube at the same time?

What if you purchased a new phone and it didn't come with a AC adapter but instead just came with a USB cable?
Should you have to seek out an AC adapter from somewhere else?

What if you purchased a new car and it didn't come with a way to raise or lower the windows?
Should you be in the position of having to find a way to raise and lower the windows yourself?

What if you went out to dinner and ordered your favorite meal but the restaurant decided to stop providing you utensils to eat that meal with?
Should you be forced to procure a fork and a knife through other means?

This type of mentality that you are promoting takes the onus away from the developers and wrongfully puts it on the players...

A SIMPLE WONDERFUL SOLUTION:

Frontier implements a simple media player in-game.
The necessary underlying framework is already in place.
I hypothesize that it would be relatively simple to create this feature and that a single coder could do it in a week.
Add a menu option for "Play Soundtrack in Media Player Only".
Treat the Media Player as if you are in a ride, and that ride happens to be the Player Camera.
Code it so that when you get on an actual ride in the game, the media player fades out / pauses, and when you get off that ride the media player fades in and playback resumes.
Create a button somewhere in the main GUI, perhaps dead center of that bottom blue bar that's mostly empty, click that button and poof, a small playlist window opens somewhere on screen.
In that window is the music list similar to what you see when you add music to a ride EXCEPT next to each song / category is a box to place a check mark in.
You check mark the songs you want to listen to and poof! MUSIC!
AND/OR as a bonus feature they could add some VCR controls as well (Previous - Play/Pause - Stop - Next - Repeat 1/All - Shuffle)

Such a simple elegant solution.
Planet Coaster gets to keep it's current ambient/background music design, and those that want such are given the opportunity to listen to the soundtrack in a more prominent way while playing the game.
People would love this feature!
