Greetings.
For the past 10 days or so, I've been trying different places and activities to get my ranking with the Federation to go up (chrome Vette, plz). It should be noted that I don't have much time to play, maybe 2 hours a day at best. Regardless of where I've gone, my experience has been spent mostly changing sessions (ignoring the monotone, tedious travel in between and within systems), because the mission board is either empty, or has maybe 1 mission half a galaxy away, or it is just something not fun to do (like mining).
I figured it was the system I was at, and as such, moved around. On the 10th day (today) of my grind, and after 700 or so jumps, trying different systems and mission hubs, it suddenly hit me.
Its not that the ranks are too "big". I went from Petty Officer at 3% to Petty Officer at 90% in that time span, which objectively, is pretty good. The issue happens to be at the mission board, and the mission rewards. I risked my $20,000,000 rebuy Anaconda for a measly $350,000 Cr. (Not that I personally came close to dying, but the point stands)
If the mission board had the option to request missions, rather than to luck out and get a good RNG list, the grind could be twice as "long" to prevent people with more time from ranking up too fast, and still feel "OK".
And I don't mean a "refresh" button (though I guess that would work). I mean having mission categories, such as "Exploration" and "Combat", and check there, see what's good, and if not, then check again after x time. It is similar to what we have now, the main difference would be that they are always populated, by at least 1 mission, available to you (as in, not locked behind cargo capacity nor standing).
What kills me is having to change sessions. I don't mind having to travel, and I certainly don't mind having to grind up standing with the relative factions. Most of the time, the session change takes all but 30 seconds, sometimes it takes 5 minutes. I have no idea why. I've tested my internet in just about every way possible, and I can assure you guys its not an issue with my connection to the servers.
Anyway, I digress. I think the mission board always having 1 mission type on every mission agent, would greatly improve on the gaming experience, and prevent the session switching that is honestly enabling situations like Naitis or Sothis/Ceos to be exploited to hell, not to mention that is as immersion breaking as it gets, and pretty damn boring too (source: am waiting on the board to refresh as I type this).
