The biggest playground in the history of PC-gaming.

And yet there is so little content. I've grinded my way up to an A-grade Python with a few 10s of millions to spare.
Along the way I've tried almost every playstyle the game permits.
So now I'm left with two choices: Keep grinding for an A-grade Anaconda, or pick a side in PP.
Since I will not ever, no matter what, be a part of the useless addition of Power Play (I actually giggle every time that comes up), the only road left for me is the Anaconda.
After that? A trip to the center of the galaxy? Why?

And before you tell me what you tell everyone else:
I can plot my own course through the millions of starsystems to Sagittarious A finding stars and planets on the way. But nothing more. JUST stars and planets.
I already know there is stars and planets out there. Why should I go looking for what I already know is there?
What might make me do so would be the very rare chance of finding some alien artifact that would bring me millions back home.
Or some rare data. What about finding a Dyson sphere? Or stars in a system not possible without someone/thing putting them there?

That would be content.

There should be another human colonies/abandon colonies, because wormhole has been closed, and thousands of systems on other side of galaxy vanished. ( maybe i'm in wrong )

Braben said there are something in space. "other things" :D

One Esk, you know you aren't supposed to have such strong emotions.

You will be reevaluated and reprogrammed. Thank you.

Anyway, always good to see another Ancillary Justice fan...everyone should read that. I use it to establish my sensibilities in the Elite Universe as an Imperial.

As for your struggling to find more to do...yeah, it is a common refrain around here. You are not the first to voice it, and FD would do well to understand that the issue comes up almost every day.

I don't know how to tell you to have more fun. I can only tell you how I have fun. For me, I just do the things I find enjoyable at that moment. Open trading rares for thrill one day, smuggling slaves the next day and another day, interdicting suspected smugglers in my neighborhood. I can still put hours into this game and not get bored. Perhaps it is suited for someone like me...I'm not a big fan of most other games. To each their own man, don't beat yourself (or the game) up if you are getting burned out on it. The nice thing about ED is that you can leave it a lone for a couple months and come back to new things to try. Even if you don't end up liking them, it is always fun to try new things, at least.

I was going to write a more lengthy reply dissecting why you are wrong in this case, but decided no - you wouldn't read it or just ignore it. So this is more for others like me who find your position quite odd.

1. You can say like or dislike the game - completely your right

2. You can say some parts not your cup of tea - totally your right (I don't much prefer PP and pledging myself)

3. It is pretty bizarre to say - this buffet is totally lacking in food when you ignore most the food the buffet was designed around

a) you admit you have ship progression left - but ignore it as content
b) you admit game has exploration - which is 1/3 of the intended design and 1/3 of way you can attain elite ranking - but ignore it as content
c) you admit PP exists - don't have to like it - but saying it is not content is again, ignoring it as content

4. Why would you care about finding alien artifact to bring home to make millions - you just declared you've no use for ship progression anymore

5. I get you don't like exploring - but your analogy is bizarre. To paraphrase you - I already know there are buildings, and food, and art, and culture right here. Why should I go to Paris (or Rome, Munich, Las Vegas strip club - insert whatever cool destination here)?

What you've basically done is strip out a big chunk of content the devs have given and then declare that this huge sandbox game has so little content.

This is why grinding ships is a bad idea. You end up feeling empty and unfulfilled. Instead, play the game to play it. I might be poor, may never have enough money to buy an Anaconda, but I don't really care. I have lots of fun.

This is where I am at the moment. Anaconda or Keep my Python. Am I buying a ship for status symbol, feeling of achievement, or will I enjoy flying it. I love this game, play every night after work and on my days off. But there is an emptiness sometimes. I have been so excited buying new ships, except this time. Just can't explain it...

I've only been playing going on 3 months and I still find the game fun to play. However, I believe there is some truth to the saying "a mile wide and an inch deep". I still enjoy trading, I still enjoy res hunting and conflict zones... for now. I'll probably give a bit of exploring a chance sooner or later. However there are some aspects of this game that don't engage me as a player. PP is interesting on the surface but the mechanic of participating in it is rather boring and not productive.
This game is a good game but it could be a GREAT game, perhaps one of the best of all time and I think this where some of the negative comments come from as it is obvious that it was released before being completely fleshed out.

tldr The foundation is there but the house is not built.

Yeah, coupled with the famous 'Braben wink'.

Funny how these things are supposed to be out there.....wink....wink.....but we have yet to find a single thing.

Nothing, zip, Nada.

Wink wink.

You know what they say, once winked twice shy.

What you've basically done is strip out a big chunk of content the devs have given and then declare that this huge sandbox game has so little content.
That "big chunk of content" is just a grain of sand in this sandbox.
I dont think you realize how big this game really is and how small the amount of content it has is.
There's 400 billion stars and all you can do is scan them and find out they have planets.
Or you can stay in your small, tiny part of the galaxy and grind for bigger badder ships.
Outside of that the rest of the vast ocean of the galaxy contains nothing.

I am not criticizing your dislike of certain parts of the game, or even many parts of the game - that's a valid and totally legit complaint - same as I can say I don't like Battlefield but I love CoD, whatever - personal tastes.

But you are criticizing Frontier for not having enough content when you are willfully ignoring (as is your right) large parts of the content choices they deliver. As I said, it's your right to ignore whatever part you like, and dislike whatever part you don't think fits your play style - but to ignore something and then claim it doesn't exist because you choose to ignore it is complete fallacy.

List of all "content".

Trading - haul itamz from A to B, spend large amounts of time lining up dots with crosshairs.
Smuggling - same as trading but less reward with an additional chance of failure that sets you back hours.
Mining - same as trading but with additional hours of shooting rocks and playing ball-in-a-cup.
Combat - pew pew.
Piracy - pew pew with a bit of smuggling.
PVP - pew pew with a bit of piracy.
Powerplay - repeat all of the above 10x for greatly delayed gratification.

If the game is boring you then put it down. If you can't think of something interesting to do, or can't find a goal to strive for, then there really is no point logging in. Do something else until you get some inspiration. I feel like your mum dude, sort it out :)

ED requires you to Blaze Your Own Path, which means you are responsible for where it goes and how you go about it. It is not Blaze Your Own Path, hand-held through a carefully crafted amusement park. But rather through Space. Which is largely empty.

So is the game world a mile wide and an inch deep? Yes, of course! It is space! More things will be added with time. But you will need use your imagination to craft your own story with the tools at hand.

To be fair, I've met people that will stand before a mountain view here in New Zealand and then say that the view at home of Matterhorn (for example) is better, so why did they bother? Must be the human condition. I'd prescribe medicine for it.

A Dyson Sphere. Now that would be something worth exploring for. Or a Ringworld of course........
