[I'd just like to apologize for anything I get wrong in this series. I'm new to Elite, its universe and its lore. But I fell in love. I hope you like the first part of my story ^_^]
Makko cursed under his breath as he pushed his sidewinder to its max throttle. This should have been a simple job, but he’d got greedy. Greedy doesn’t get you far in the verse unless you’re also smart. Makko was not smart. If he could just get to Cleve Hub, he’d be fine. He could lay low in the safety of the stations security and Black would never be able to touch him. All he had to do was beat him to the station. Simple. He glanced at his contact scanner, a handful of ships, nothing unusual for Eravate. They were mostly trade ships, some haulers, a couple of Lakon freighters. Among the usual, Makko’s eyes locked on one familiar ship type. An eagle. He locked on its signal, his stomach dropped at the details. Black was in his range.
‘Crap!’.
It was worse, Black was gaining on him. Makko started to panic.
‘I should have left that damned data there’ he thought with himself, ‘Why the hell do you get yourself in these situations Makko’.
His sidewinder jerked suddenly,
“Warning, Interdiction attempt in progress” came a calm, female voice.
“I hadn’t noticed!” Makko snapped back, knowing his ship’s AI couldn’t actually hear him. He battled against the attempt, following his ships best attempts at an escape velocity but Makko was a low ranked pirate. He had no hope against a seasoned bounty hunter like Black. His ship span violently as it was torn from Supercruise, slamming Makko hard against his controls. He killed his engines and waited. Maybe if he seemed helpless Black would go easy on him.
Black’s Eagle orbited the sidewinder slowly for what felt like an age before Makko’s comms beeped into life.
Black: “Data.”.
Makko bit his tongue. The smart thing to do would be to give black the data he needs and flee. Makko was not a smart man.
Makko: “What data?”. He began to sweat as he awaited the reply
Black: “Have it your way”. A blip on his console indicated Black had extended his hard points. Makko panicked.
Slamming the throttle forward and hitting his boost, Makko sped off past the orbiting ship and began spooling his Frameshift drive. He ducked and weaved, hoping his movements would make him a harder target to hit, but black handled his Eagle like it was a part of his own body. Makko’s sidewinder shuddered as a barrage of laser fire splashed across his shield
“Shield at 46% Capacity” ‘Crap!’ he screamed internally and diverted his ships power into his engines. His only hope of getting out of here alive was his Frameshift. He glanced at his nav console, it was only half spooled. Without warning Black unleashed another payload of laser fire, Makko’s sidewinder shaking violently from the impact, its shields glowing weakly before vanishing entirely. His Frameshift was only at 75% and he was now entirely open. A burst of fire sprang from Black’s multicannon, slamming hard into the Sidewinder. It reeled and spun, sparks and flames erupting from a console behind Makko.
“Frameshift drive offline”. Makko glared in disbelief at the console. A perfectly aimed shot had completely destroyed his FSD, torn through his engines and left him a sitting duck. Black’s ship circled in front of Makko and came to a stop.
Black: “You have one last chance, and to prove I’m not screwing around”, a flash of light came from Black’s cannons as bullets peppered against Makko’s canopy. It began cracking under the stress.
Black: “Data. Now”.
Makko: “Okay! Just...Please! Don’t kill me” Makko pleaded as he punched buttons on what was left of his console. A moment passed before his computer confirmed the transfer.
Black: “And to think, had you not been such an idiot you might have survived this day”. Makko panicked and began punching in a response but it was too late. Bullets colided with his canopy shattering its already weakened body. Silence flooded Makko’s senses as the void filled his ship. The eagle aligned upon the direction of Cleve hub and, after a moment of charge, shifted into FTL travel. Tears burned Makkos face as the life support of his suit ticked down. He stared out into the black, looking for any sign of life, anyone he could signal for rescue. Nothing but darkness stared back.
