Suggestion: Increase war bonds + Increase bounties

Currently trading is the only actual profitable profession which keeps increasing in profitability through time. I am suggesting that they actually make bounty hunters and warzone dogfighters make a living and be able to compete with traders which they obviously should be able to do...

1,000 CR is nothing compared to what it should be when it comes to killing enemies... It costs more to repair my ship than it does to kill an enemy ASP and 3 fighters which is just absurd... (mother gaia will prevail!!!)

Also bounty hunting needs to be on average 4x more profitable. Needs to be done guys, snap snap.

You can get kill mission that increase the warzone profitability, but it's still only like 20k / 5 ships + bonds.

True true but those still aren't worth it and are hard to come by.

Bumping with this cool cobra skin I found (killed him a second after, my damage is from an elite anaconda in the SOL civil war) FOR MOTHER GAIA!

Mission to kill bounty hunters

So... I've come across this a couple of times.

Mission says to kill x number of "bounty hunters". Question is - HOW DO I TELL?

Pirates and Traders are easy... but bounty hunters? There are no Fer-De-Lances in-game for me to "instantly" recognise one :p

Or are we supposed to do it the hard way... hang around a Nav Beacon, see who's shooting at who, then we scan for the ship that isn't "wanted" then we attack that one?

If you become wanted, like I did, you will often get interdicted by bounty hunters. They will tell you, that you have a nice prize on your head.

Also, I guess Bounty Hunters have Kill-Warrent Scanners equipped.

Yeah I have found looking at the Subsystems to see what ship have equipped is the best way to put them in a group
Eg.
Pirate - Wanted with Limpits &/or cargo scanner and intradictor
Bounty Hunters -Clean with KWS & intradictor

I think the easier route would be to become WANTED on purpose and just let myself be interdicted :D

Thanks guys!

You can hang around a nav beacon and bounty hunters will scan you and give you a message saying you're cleared, or attack you depending on your wanted level.

How d oyou complete any of the 'mission to kill x'? I have been playing since the start of open beta, but am having trouble with the new kill missions. I keep taking on the kill x mission only to track one down and have it give me an alteranitive mission. but i want to complete the original. So i blast them. get no credit. Go kill some at a uss. get no credit.. kills some at a Nav beacon. no credit....Am i killing the wrong thing? how can i tell? as far as i was aware, and has been the case until the new mission systems in gamma, everyone was either pirate, bounty hunter, security or trader...

A quick pointer on bounties, stations, and dying.

Hi everyone. I thought I would share some information that I've figured out through trial and error.

WARNING: portions of this guide are outdated. I will work on updating these section shorty. Just be aware that bounties can't simply be paid off now. They are time based. I will go into this further as I update this guide. (08/28/15)

Let's start with: Bounties

A big red "WANTED" sign next to your name can be an exciting thing, but also pretty frustrating for newer players. The places you can safely go can be diminished greatly, depending on which faction you are wanted with.

By being wanted, you are a fair target to any ship in the jurisdiction of whichever faction issued your bounty. Defending yourself against clean ships who are attacking you because you have a bounty will make the price on your head larger. Also, if you are in an area controlled by a different faction , you will appear as 'clean' until someone uses a Kill Warrant Scanner on you. At that point you will show as wanted to them but because you are in a different factions jurisdiction, they will become wanted for shooting you and you're free to defend yourself. The only exception to this is anarchy systems, where you will not become wanted for anything.

Some of the ways you can get wanted include:
-Hitting a 'clean' ship with your weapons. (Assault, 200cr bounty)
-Murdering a clean ship. (Murder, 6000cr bounty)
-Defending yourself against 'clean' ships in areas controlled by your bounties issuing faction.

Fines will also turn into bounties after 24 hours of being issued/unpaid.
Fines can come from multiple things, considered minor compared to bounties. You will not be attacked immediately by authority ships with only fines , only with bounties.
-Being scanned with stolen/illegal cargo in your hold. (Fine depends on value of goods, can be MASSIVE)
-Pad loitering. (If the number on the pad doesn't match the one on your HUD, it's the wrong pad and you'll be fined)
-Ejecting cargo too close/inside of stations.
-Firing your weapons inside the 'no fire zone' around stations.
-Littering around any authority ships away from a station. It can happen anywhere in normal space.

NOTE: You will not incur a bounty for attacking anybody in an anarchy system.

Now that you know some ways of how you can get bounties and fines slapped on you, let's talk about ways to get rid of them.

First and formost, simply pay them off. This can be done in the "Contacts" menu of any station, even those not belonging to the faction that has issued any bounties on you. While it's possible to pay bounties from anywhere, fines must be paid at stations belonging to the issuing faction. This is best done when you are only slightly wanted/fined or have more credits than you know what to do with as the price to pay off bounties is 1.5 times more than the listed price on your head.

Secondly, bounties will become dormant if you respawn at a station you aren't wanted at. A dormant bounty will show up on scans done by the system authority vessels in the jurisdiction you were originally wanted in and will start at the previous price on your head. It will also become active where it left off if you commit any further crimes against the issuing faction.

NOTE: I've had people tell me that their dormant bounties go away after 24 hours. This is not something I've ever experienced. For me, if I have an active bounty become dormant, it will stay dormant until I either pay it off, or commit a crime and reactivate my wanted status. I've spent easily two weeks with a dormant bounty and it hasn't gone away.
If anyone else can confirm or deny this 24 hour time period and PM me, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Finally, you can be FORCED to pay off any outstanding bounties/fines if you aren't careful.

Update: The bounty mechanics seem to have changed. It no longer matters if you are killed by NPC or player, the result will be the same. In other words, if you are killed by a player while wanted, your bounty will no longer disappear. It now follows the same rules as being killed by an NPC while wanted. *thank you to forum user "ciger" for this information.*

This bring us to the next point.
Stations:

You may have noticed different types of space stations, ranging from the symmetrical coriolis star ports, the massive ocellus stations, or the randomly slapped together outposts. For simplicities sake, I will refer to all large stations and star ports as "stations" and all small stations as "outposts".
Let's look at the differences between the two sizes.

Station(large):
-Usually has more station services.
-Internal docking only.
-Many landing pads of all sizes, in a 'barrel' shape.
-Active security patrols outside.
-Will attempt to scan you upon entry AND exit. This can be bypassed through flight techniques.

Outpost(small):
-Usually only has limited station services.
-External docking only
-Few landing pads, mostly small ones with maybe one or two medium pads. It depends on the size and wealth of the outpost.
-No security vessels.
-Will not attempt a scan on you.

If you didn't come to this conclusion yourself, I want to point out that outposts are much safer to dock at if you are wanted.

Stations and outpost all belong to a controlling faction. Whether it's a major one such as the Federation or an indipendent one such as the Crimson State. Because of this, you can be wanted at one station, yet completely legal at another in the same system. This information can be found in your system map and the factions you are wanted with will show on your right hand HUD under "reputation."

One last thing to note about stations. If you dock at a station or outpost, you are effectively setting a respawn point in the event you die. This is where bounties and factions can play a major role in your finances and brings me to my last point.

Dying:
It's bound to happen to everyone sooner or later. You can make it much less expensive even with a large bounty on your head. If you die and have your respawn at a station who's faction has issued bounties or fines to you, YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THEM. This ties into my last point above in the bounty section.

There is an alternative though, so fear not!

If you die and you have your respawn at a station who's faction hasn't issued bounties or fines on you (and you're still wanted) you will NOT have to pay off the price on your head. It all comes down to checking who any one station belongs to and whether that faction wants your head or not.

To sum things up.
You can be wanted by one or more faction at a time.
You only have to pay off your bounties/fines if you spawn at a station belonging to the issuing faction.
Due to lax security, outposts are much easier(safer) to dock at, regardless of controlling faction.
All information on your personal fines/bounties can be found on the right hand HUD.
All station/faction information is in the system map.

By doing things intelligently, it's entirely possible to survive (and thrive!) with a sizeable bounty on your head. You just have to follow some of the advice given and use your head.

Forum poster, Errantthought has also published some well written guides, the one I feel compliments this guide the most is his smugglers guide. So if you're having trouble sneaking into stations with illegal goods, take a look. Here's the link(with his permission): https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=77378

Helpful. Kinda suspected the 'respawn location dictating which bounty you pay' deal but was too chicken to test it.

I think I shot a ship by accident while fightin pirates and now I have a bounty on me, that was a little to easy to do, how do I get rid of it

Yep quite easy to do, done it myself!

Assuming you're in a system controlled by the faction of the ship you shot... Go to Contacts when docked in the station, and one of the options on the left (sorry I forget which, maybe local security office or the pilot one) should then show your fine on the right - which you can then pay off.

Despite our testing and feedback on that situation, it is too easy to do... As above you can pay off the fines easy, just don't get scanned with a bounty

For clarity:

When docked, Station Services | Contacts | Pilot Federation will allow you to pay off your bounty for crimes you have committed deliberately or inadvertently. The trick of course is docking with a bounty on your head. I recommend Outpost type stations, they often lack security patrol ships, so you can get in, dock, make your case to the authorities and clear your name, then resume your business.

What means "Claims: 10,000 CR bounty in federation" in Transaction's screen?

Hello!

I got a mission to kill a pirate, so i was just exploring the last known location when a NPC attacked me. I killed him and now i have on my transactions screen the information below CLAIMS for 10,000 CR bounty in federation.

This means i have this money on my head or this is what i must collect for myself?

I just landed on a station with federation allegiance and i have no fines, bounties nor criminal record, so i think this credits are for me. How do i collect them?

Thanks !
