Roller Coasters The Briar Patch Hybrid Coaster

A very tangled up, compact hybrid. The hybrids have always reminded me of briar patches with their metal crossties sticking up out of the mass of wood structure, so I went with that image. This thing has more head-choppers than I can count and occupies very little acreage. I'd have some better views of the track itself but for some reason, ever since I made this video (with OBS), PC won't run. It launches but never finishes loading a saved game, it just sits there with the Ferris Wheel going around and every hint on its list cycling by. Any idea how to fix that?

But in the meantime, enjoy this video. Or not :)

What, no comment at all on the merits or not of the coaster? I just mentioned my game problems in passing to explain why the video wasn't better.

Anyway, I seem to have gotten PC working again, although now OBS isn't. I wanted one of those track-level views most folks post. But that's not happening right now. So instead here's a top-down screenshot of the ride so you can see how tangled up it is.

Anyway, somewhat surprisingly, it has "all green" stats (excitement just barely, like 6.02). Even stranger, kids will ride it even though fear is like 4.3. Never seen kids on a ride with fear > 4 before. So it does a good business. And this was actually a case of tweaking a ride's excitement up into the green, contrary to popular belief that tweaking only lowers stats. It certainly made the ride less smooth for human tastes, but I guess PC customers like it a little rough. They're kinda naughty that way :)

It is looking really cool, especially at night. The whole atmosphere, especially at the coaster station is great with the lighting and fog, and the looks of the coaster and the theming fit very well together. Coaster seems to be fairly smooth, though it seems to have a bit of a whiplash moment at the 1.40 mark in your video hehehe. Well the public doesn't seem to mind at least. The top down view on the coaster station is pretty cool too, looks like someone handbraided those roots and vines into a sort of ribcage like structure. I like compacted coasters, so you have my [up]

The ride does look nice it is like you said tangled. I like what you did with the trees as well. what are the stats for nausea and top speed?

When you get videos working again, can you please make a daytime video as well? Looks cool at night, but in a tangled, twisted compact design it's hard to orient yourself in the dark. :)

I like compact, small footprint, designs. Like others (and you) have said, it gets a little rough, but overall I like it!

Thanks. And somebody did hand-braid the roots--me :) I was trying to make the rose arch from H-E-L-L and I think it came out pretty good. The station just has low wood beam transverse arches covered up with thorny vines, then 5 longitudinal rows of vines laid on top of that and pulled down even with those on the beams.

As to the "whiplash moment" at 1:40.... That's kinda deliberate. See, I built the whole coaster by hand 1 piece at a time, no pre-built inversions. It turned out to need a mid-course block to prevent the 2nd train from stopping at the top of the lift and that spot in the track was the only place I could put it, because it was already a mild little double-up. Putting the block in there roughened it up somewhat. At this point, the coaster's excitement was like 5.95 so I then lifted the block and sunk the bottom of the drop leading into it for more airtime, and that got excitement into the green without hurting fear or nausea too much, because it only lasts an instant. The negative Gs spike at about 1.8 there, which is kinda harsh, but the peeps love it.

So the bump there was gaming the game to get good stats, not trying to build something "realistic". I'm sure in the future the peeps' opinions of rides will get tweaked and then this bump will become detrimental. But when that happens, I'll just smooth it back out some.

Thanks! Nausea is about 1.5 IIRC, well in the green. Top speed is only 55mph. But it averages about 35 all through after the 1st drop until just before then end. These hybrids roll a LONG way even when you pull a bunch of hard maneuvers :)

Thanks! Yup, the plan was to do just a little of the night ride and mostly a track-level daytime video, but stuff happened. Once I get my video issues sorted, I'll do a new version. I originally tried using the Nvidia GeForce experience, which I used to use but it's been some months since I made a game video. When I fired it up just now, I saw they'd changed GeForce Experience into nothing but spyware and adware with broken video. It doesn't even say the name "Shadowplay" anymore, let alone actually record anything. So I uninstalled it and went back to OBS. That's also changed a lot since I used it last. Now sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Did you know you Can change the speed of the Chain lift thus changing the excitement. You do it by clicking on just the lift when in build mode and then going to utility settings.

OK, got OBS working again. So as promised, a daytime track-level view prefaced by paging through all the stats.
