As dawn approaches at Drakhyr Point and with just 1 week to go (in Earth days) before the day of the rally is upon us, it's time we had a briefing about exactly how this is all going to work.
So, next Sunday 10th August 3311 competitors should start gathering (in Open) at Camp Bucky on planet 4 b in the Hyades Sector ZU-Y d68 system from around 14:30 UTC (that's 3:30pm UK time or 10:30 EST) with a view to an actual start time on or slightly after 15:00 UTC (4pm UK time, 11:00 EST). The official start line is anywhere inside the outer wall on the North side of the camp.
I'll be there from around 14:00 UTC and if people don't already have me in their friends list (it's Alec Turner) then send me a friend request so I can send team invites if necessary to get people into the right instance.
People should also head to the Buckyball Racing Club Discord server (https://discord.gg/YwxcsCf) and join the #drakhyr-comms voice channel. We'll primarily be using this channel for communication during the rally. There's also a #drakhyr-rally-general text channel for people who prefer not to speak but do still join the voice channel if you can so that you can listen out for announcements.
Could competitors also announce their arrival at Camp Bucky on the day by posting in the #drakhyr-check-in-desk channel (but try to keep chatter in that channel to a minimum).
When everyone we're expecting is accounted for (or presumed absent) I'll be announcing an official start time (I'll do this in discord voice and text channels as well as in-game local chat). For example I might say that the start time will be 15:15:00 UTC. I'll also record and pin that time in the #drakhyr-check-in-desk channel. When that time ticks over on the in-game HUD clock drivers are free to head off.
Anyone's who's experienced or just really fancies it is welcome to head for the big mountain (the heading is slightly to the left of Drakhyr Point, around 14°, and you will see the white peak of it on the horizon after about 8 or 9km), otherwise just head straight for Drakhyr Point by whatever route seems best to you.
At various convenient points during the race (certainly at pit stops) could drivers post their current distance to Drakhyr Point in the #drakhyr-check-in-desk channel so we have some sense of where everyone is at any given time. Could you also post a DNF in that channel if you explode as well as posting the in-game HUD clock time when you cross the Drakhyr Point finish line.
Note that the finish line is when you pass through the outer gate of the entrance tunnel. If you miss the tunnel and hit the outer wall (or bounce over the outer wall entirely) then you must drive back around and through the outer entrance tunnel to record your finish time.
Drivers in a team should wing-up with their team mates so they can target individual members to see how they're doing and maybe stay close. You might also choose to target your nearest rival so you can keep on eye on their progress.
I'd also advise recording video or taking a screen shot every 10km or so, and also when you cross the finish line. This is so that if your game crashes or you explode you have some record of roughly where you were when it happened.
With just one week to go and daylight starting to break on the route this is a good time to practice but also don't forget to stock up on Iron and Nickel for emergency SRV repair synthesis. Oh, and also don't forget to arrive in a good ship for pit stops, something with a small footprint that can land anywhere and maybe a couple of SRV bays (so you have a spare if your fuel runs low or if you want to continue your run in an unofficial capacity following a DNF explosion).
If there are any further questions please ask away.
