Ship Builds & Load Outs The Burst Laser Appreciation Thread

These are interesting weapons. I love the fixed one for sniping a fleeing target obviously, and it has a very nice balance of single shot damage/penetration/energy use/trigger functionality.

The trigger functionality is really nice. Pair it up with a secondary weapon that has either spool up/charge up or simply time distributed damage and you gain extra shooting options.
I like to marry the fixed burst to a fixed pulse and a gimballed burst to a multicannon. Gives 7 modes of firing.....

Lastly there is the minor bonus of shorter firing windows: a c3 fixed pulse steady damage over 3seconds say, but the frontloading of the burst damage means that you can get 3 seconds of dps in 2.2 seconds. This makes snapshot windows of opportunity on passing targets more deadly.

Much more interesting lasers than beam/pulse!

Now if only they could give disco colour phasing of shots in each burst. Space rainbows FTW. ;)

Class 1 bursts were awesome. Class 3 bursts on a Vulture didn't work out so well for me somehow. I imagine they might be great on a Python though.

The relation of the advantage of using bursts vs pulse is flawed. You gain so little for using 40% more MW. And if you have the spare MW, many tend to use Beams then instead.

There exist burst lasers of all types up to class 3. I got them of all size on my anaconda.

How long have you had the class 2 burst lasers?
I had mine until about a month ago when I sold them to try different loadouts and have not been able to find another pair since.

I haven't come across medium fixed burst lasers. Do they exist?

Nope they don't exist in game any more, apparently is was an oversight - they should be coming back at some point.

Bursts are great for snapshots in tight turning fights with small firing windows, beams can be a pain to keep on target and pulses don't output enough DPS in these situation.

They're my favourite laser in a fixed C3 mount. I also like them more in C3 gimballed mounts than beams, there tracking seems to be slightly less erratic, and they're easier to handles to firing forward once decoupled from the target when chaff is deployed.

I agree with you for C1 mounts though, the small ships tend to be agile enough to keep fixed beams on target.
