The Chieftain: Ruined

It's a great ship, don't get me wrong - the price is nice, it's quite capable, but I'm going to have to ruin it...

With the landing gear in the rear nacelles, when it's parked it looks like a dog taking a dump.

Wasn't expecting to like the ship this much. As usual screenshots don't do it justice, the ship feels quite big in VR, noticed it has multiple decks like the Python, there is a stair case to a lower deck at the back of the bridge. Very maneveruable, with a fair bit of drift thrown in, can definitely live with the landing gear, thankfully it doesn't have a spoiler!

Planets are stunning now, dark sides are dark, so much variation :)

Just never land it... Problem solved. :)

For me it's shaping up somewhere between a Vulture and a Python. Bit of a combat capable explorer and mission runner. Heavy loadouts on maneuverable ships kind of seems to be my thing. Python is a bit too sluggish for me, so I don't prefer using weapons on it.

Think I'll keep my Vulture as my main combat capable explorer. I just like the way it handles in supercruise too much.

I can see myself messing around with some of the Engineer resource gathering in the Chieftain.

It definitely is a good looking vessel.
It will become part of my fleet asap.

I do feel that the price should be between 35 and 40 mil.
I think it is currently too cheap.

Plus, how does all that gear fit into the space with the engines.

Flimley

That's been discussed to no end - it just does. There's quite a bit of space in there, since most of the thruster is external. I'll see if I can't get a good up-compartment shot.

Most of the landing gear - the giant plate the makes contact with the ground, is external.

What does fold up and go inside, only occupies a small portion of the nacelle, and consists of the hydrolic pistons that move the landing slat into position. It the rest of the nacelle is completely closed off.

Here, you can even watch a video of it:

The fit just fine.

Very nice. Thank you for taking the trouble.

Well, it looks more like a slowly stalking cat to me, imo. Pets taking a dump usually have a higher angle of the lower back as seen in the dog pic some posts above.
