OK. We are told that the Federation and the Empire are respective galactic superpowers, and the Alliance is the young upstart questioning the status-quo, but, out of curiosity, is there any info or statistics out there on the relative sizes of the powers (and indeed all of human space?). I'm thinking the # of planets controlled by each faction (and what their economies are), populations (must be in the 100 billions, if not trillions for the two main powers?), volumes of space occupied etc.

Plus, lore-wise what's the timeline and situation regarding the canon of the previous games? (e.g. Thargoid contact in FFE, but where are they now?, when did the new style frame-shift drive come in, and is the timeline on Alioth.net fairly accurate?)
